The Director, Learning & Organizational Development is responsible for the design and delivery of all learning and development activities focused on driving high performance across the organization ship and shore. The role will oversee organizational development initiatives aimed at maximizing employee alignment, engagement and performance. Critical to this role are the ability to develop and manage multiple objectives, often simultaneously; and the ability to identify programmatic needs and prioritize tasks and resources to meet goals. The Director Learning & Organizational Development will work extensively with cross-functional teams across the organization, particularly with senior leadership.
What you’ll be doing::
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Retail Learning Analysis and Training Needs Analysis:
- Act as primary partner to business & HRBPs to conduct ongoing needs assessments of employee base to develop learning programs against Starboard business objectives
- Map and consolidate learning available across the world today with an emphasis on teams at sea
- Identify unique development opportunities for individuals or groups as necessary
Learning Design & Delivery:
- Partner with the business to develop and continuously evolve strategic, sustainable, and effective retail learning offering globally
- Develop a core curriculum of learning that meets the business
- Continue to build on and enhance capability & process to deliver sustainable retail learning
- Establish learning performance objectives, learning outcomes, and assessment tools, utilizing established instructional theories and design principles to deliver to needs identified
- Coordinate and lead the instructional design of retail courses, in partnership with departments and subject matter experts
- Create image-right materials and consistent Starboard look and feel across all learning
External Learning Vendor Management & Academic Partnerships:
- Source and manage vendors who deliver to areas of sales, Fine Jewelry, brands, competence development, leadership, and organizational needs where in house expertise or resource is not Ensure cultural fit of all vendors and materials
- Ensure Starboard appropriate content, branding and material
Organizational Development:
- Develop programs to improve the organization’s capability through the alignment of strategy, people, rewards, metrics and management processes
Assess company culture and use insights to design and implement developmental initiatives.
Team Management
- Identify best organization for L&D and recruit and develop direct reports in the performance of their duties.
Budget Management
- Prepare, monitor and achieve results within approved training department budget
What we’re looking for::
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and 7-10 years equivalent work experience
- Master’s degree required and 10 + years equivalent work experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and eLearning/CBT applications and design principles. Demonstrated understanding of training methods and techniques, instructional design, adult learning principles, and other training and development techniques
- 10+ years or more of related experience with training and leadership development
- Effective, creative problem-solving skills, strong business acumen, strong organizational skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
- Must be comfortable working through ambiguity and in a fast-paced dynamic environment
- Working knowledge of group and corporate dynamics and integrity
- Demonstrated ability to employ sound judgment in complex situations
- Excellent interpersonal, public communication and facilitation skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population at all levels
- Self-directed in planning own work and work of teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Travel Requirement:
- 20 – 40% travel required depending on assigned business unit

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Some flexibility in hours is permitted, employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and must work 30 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Physical Demands:
Office environment with frequent sitting, walking and standing, occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and balancing. Frequent use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling use of office machinery. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Oral and auditory enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication automated devise such as the telephone.
