upGrad Announces to Launch 8 New Experience Centres in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana

upGrad Announces to Launch 8 New Experience Centres in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana

Ed-tech company upGrad is set to launch eight new Offline Experience Centres (OEC) in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to accelerate its regional penetration in FY24. According to an official release, upGrad recorded a 400% increase in counselling sessions during previous January to this year.

With 35+ PAN India Centres operating, upGrad has the most centres in West India, followed by South India and an international presence in Nepal. These Centres have dedicated and skilled counsellors/coaches to guide visitors, potential learners and their families through the market trends, explain to them how upskilling could add another layer of expertise, and address specific other academic and non-academic queries. Moreover, owing to the rapid growth momentum, upGrad expanded its office presence across AP & Telangana during FY23, bringing the total team strength to 300+ in just two regions.

upGrad was founded in 2015 by Ronnie Screwvala, Mayank Kumar and Phalgun Kompalli to offer short entrepreneurship and data science courses. The Mumbai-based company spans several segments, from test prep, study abroad, undergrad degrees, and university campus courses. Its offerings include finance, law, business, and software for the 18-60 age group.

Speaking about the development, Head of Offline Sales – India, Jeetender Singh, said:

We understand that learning preferences across metros and non-metros, especially tier 3 or beyond, are non-identical. Hence, we constantly upgrade our outreach techniques to ensure we scale our reach and that every person we connect with is aware of our product to make an informed learning choice. AP & Telangana remain the two most important business-ready regions for us. Hence, it is even more critical for us to track the constantly evolving learning patterns and develop market-ready products for higher growth.

Furthermore, commenting on the business, Mayank Kumar, co-founder, MD, upGrad, said

While the internet has made inroads to most locations today, it still does limit the genuinity of the information shared. With these counselling sessions, we want to empower India’s youth and every household with easily available information for a positive output.

Since 2020, upGrad has acquired several startups, including Harappa, Rekrut, Work Better, Gate Academy, Impartus, KnowledgeHut, Global Study Partners, Talentedge, and INSOFE. The startup claims that it has a learner base of over 3 million across 100+ countries, more than 300 University partners, and a robust enterprise business with a client base of 1000 companies worldwide.

Edtech startup AdmitKard, an education technology startup that simplifies accessing higher education abroad, has raised $6.03 Mn (INR 50 Cr) in a Series A funding round from VC firm GSV Ventures. Angel investors also participated in the round.

With the fresh capital, AdmitKard is well-positioned to continue its rapid growth and further cement its position as a leading player in the EdTech space. The Noida-based firm plans to expand its team, invest in new technology and product offerings, and continue expanding its presence in key markets worldwide.

Founded in 2016 by Piyush Bhartiya and Rachit Agrawal, the edtech startup uses advanced tech and data science to offer personalised overseas education solutions to students, helping them shortlist universities, courses, and countries. It boasts of a robust technology platform to make the entire application process effortless and to enable one to apply from the comfort of the home.

Commenting on the new fundraising, Co-founder of AdmitKard, Piyush Bhartiya, said:

We are using the proceeds to expand our product portfolio apart from admissions. The startup wants “go broader in terms of helping the students in financing education, scholarships, enabling them in getting accommodation, and various other challenges that they face while going through admissions.

Bhartiya added:

We are approaching the market in different ways. Students from more than 250 cities are going abroad from India. We are looking at new go-to-market strategies, which we will experiment with and look at having deeper reach in these cities. The startup runs on a freemium model, with its primary services available to all students. Educational institutions also pay the company a royalty fee for promotion and marketing. AdmitKard currently has about 200 employees. We’ll double the team size over the next 12 to 18 months.

The company claims to have served students from 26 states in India and other countries, including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Vietnam. Rachit Agrawal, Co-founder of AdmitKard, added:

Our vision is to empower students to make informed career choices and use education effectively to achieve their goals. No one expert can know it all, and hence they have built an intelligent match-making layer on top of millions of data points gathered over the years and refreshed frequently. But data itself is insufficient to provide assurance and confidence in a pivotal life decision for which AdmitKard has nurtured a tight-knit community of Mentors (current international students) who guide these students and their parents by sharing their experiences.
