Preschool Management App LiveKid Raises $3.36M funding for expansion

Preschool Management App LiveKid Raises $3.36M funding for expansion

LiveKid, a Krakow-based preschool and nursery management platform and parent-to-kindergarten contact app, has raised $3.36 million (€3.14 million) in a fresh funding round led by Inovo VC.

LiveKid’s latest funding will help accelerate its growth. It aims to expand in Latin America and will continue to grow in Europe. In 2024, the startup will open an office in Mexico, employing 20 people. They will join the European team of 70, working from the KrakĂ³w, Poland, and Barcelona, Spain offices. The company also intends to introduce the Portuguese language to the platform (following English, German, Polish, Spanish, and Ukrainian) and expand to Portugal and Brazil.

Founded in 2017 by Jakub Pawelski, LiveKid offers an all-in-one preschool and nursery management platform. It provides all the tools needed for smooth kindergarten operations and communication with parents, including billing, staff management, admissions, meal planning, e-journals, bulletin boards, galleries and reports. The platform also proves invaluable in payment management, from setting up charge schemes through the billing system to mobile payments for parents.

Speaking about the platform, Founder & CEO of LiveKid, Jakub Pawelsi, said:

Six years ago, LiveKid created a new category of digital services and products for preschool childcare in Poland. Since then, we’ve grown in a capital-efficient way. This includes making a strong entry into Mexico with limited resources. We aim to be a global leader, which needs bold steps. The fresh funds will help us hire more people in Mexico to grow in current and new markets, with the opportunity to consolidate the market.

Michał Rokosz, Partner, Inovo VC, commented:

We have known Kuba for several years and have been following his progress practically since the beginning of the company. He is a founder who is genuinely passionate about the problem being solved. This is evident in every aspect of the company’s operations, particularly in emphasising high-quality customer service. LiveKid is also a company with very high capital efficiency. They managed to grow to a significant scale with just one funding round. Kuba and his team are close to winning the Polish market while being well on their way to replicating their success in Spain and Mexico. Once they achieve a dominant position in the market, businesses of the vertical SaaS type are very profitable and can maintain their position for a long time.

Talent Development Platform Smalt Raises $4.39M in Pre-Seed Financing

Smalt, a Berlin-based talent development and services platform for the green trades sector, has recently raised $4.39 million (€4.1 million) in pre-seed financing to accelerate Europe’s green energy transition by leveraging untapped immigrant labour potential.

Smalt’s aim, which began in 2023, is to be the labour supply and productivity engine driving the global energy transition by combining education, technology, and operational excellence. The platform’s innovative education programme begins with intensive two- to six-week academies. It continues to train participants using digital learning technologies to become certified solar and heat pump installation specialists.

The startup develops talent through specialized clean energy training and certification programmes, and it transforms service fulfilment using smart dispatching, AI-driven workflow guidance, and dedicated customer analytics.

Khurram Masood, one of Smalt’s Co-Founders, stated about the platform:

Smalt is purpose-built to bridge the gap between talent shortage and demand surplus. Our training platform will provide economic opportunity for tens of thousands of workers.

Smalt’s services are already being delivered to large B2B customers such as solar and heat pump OEMs, energy companies, and large green energy asset retailers who have a centralized demand for homes that require installation services. The most significant value proposition for these customers is the ability to access high-quality installation services at scale from a pool of experienced and recently trained workers. The firm vision for the future is to expand through a continent-wide network of installation and service stores led by experienced leaders from its workforce, local entrepreneurs, and experienced trades workers.

Adding about the company, Co-founder of Smalt, Marius Westhoff, said:

By digitizing the predominantly pen-and-paper process of procuring, installing, and maintaining renewable energy solutions, Smalt will empower this new talent to become the engine Europe needs to secure our environmental future.

Moodle Admins - How to Import Microsoft Word/Google Docs into Moodle Book easily?

Microsoft Word is one of the most popular text editor due to its ease of use and familiarity among all the users. Many Moodle teachers still use Microsoft Word to create their class content and then import that in Moodle. In this post we will see how you can import the contents of Microsoft Word or Google Docs file into Moodle Book resource.

The Moodle Book resource allows you to create multi-page resources with a book-like format and table of contents. You can also include videos, images and other web items within your Book pages. The students can also print the chapters of the book or even print the complete book.

Now, to import the content create by any teacher or Moodle user in Microsoft Word, you can use the Microsoft Word File Import/Export (Book) Moodle plugin. The plugin import the contents of a Microsoft Word file into a book, splitting it into chapters and (optionally) subchapters, based on the heading styles.

If you want to import a Google Docs document, then you can download the file in .docx format which can be imported using this plugin.

The plugin also gives you the option to export the Book chapter or complete Book to Microsoft Word which can later be edited in Word. You can download the Microsoft Word file import/export (book) Moodle plugin from this link. The plugin is part of the Microsoft Word file import/export.

Moodle Educators – How to create a typing practice activity in Moodle Course

Moodle Educators - How to create a typing practice activity in Moodle Course
Moodle Educators - How to create a typing practice activity in Moodle Course

Moodle LMS is world’s most popular open source learning management system with approx 400 million users around the globe. It is used in all types of learning requirements from corporate companies, universities, schools, medical and other industries. In this post we will see how you can create a typing activity in Moodle course.

Online learning has gained traction since last few years due to the pandemic as well as to keep up the pace with modern trends. However, learning how to type can be one of the trivial skill which needs to be mastered with practice.

MooTyper Moodle plugin allows you to have a typing practice/instruction functionality into Moodle. A course admin, manager, or teacher creates the activity and prepares it for use by selecting the keyboard layout and lessons to use.  It can be set up to present a series of exercises from a lesson or to present one selected exercise from a lesson as a typing exam. Once set up, students can then start to type the current exercise. When a student finishes an exercise his achievement is saved into a database, so the teacher can then view grades.

The plugin supports different keyboard layouts which includes many popular keyboard layouts e.g. Arabic, Greek, Hebrew, Portugese, Russian etc. The activity can be used in three different modes:

  • Practice mode – students proceed through a lesson in the order of the exercises listed in the lesson. It also allows a student to delete the results of an exercise attempt, and try it over.
  • Lesson mode – like practice mode, students proceed through a lesson in the order of the exercises listed in the lesson. Only an admin, manager, or teacher can delete an exercise result, and let the student try again.
  • Exam mode – only one exercise from a lesson is presented for the student to attempt. Only an admin, manager, or teacher can delete an exam mode result, and let the student try again.

When a student finishes any exercise, in any mode, the results are saved into a MooTyper database, so the teacher can view individual student progress.

You can download the MooTyper Moodle plugin from the official plugins repository here.
