    Brief Job Overview

    This is a hands-on position that is responsible for developing effective learning experiences for live and self-paced/online courses. This position will work directly with Subject Matter Experts (SME) within or outside of USP and other staff to: Analyze learners background knowledge and instructional needs; determine learning goals; establish instructional design approach; generate and implement course designs to ensure engaging learning activities; produce storyboards, scripts, wireframes, and other materials to communicate user experience; develop live and self-paced course materials using learning technologies expertise; create exceptional interactive learning experiences that meet the instructional intent and optimize learner retention; and coordinate all project team activities to facilitate course delivery.

    How will YOU create impact here at USP?

    • 40%: Lead cross-functional teams of SMEs and operations staff in course development and delivery, managing timelines, priorities, planning, administration, and execution. These efforts will support our strategy to support USP standards users with educational materials during the implementation period of those standards.
    • 50 %: Implement excellent instructional design: Develop instructor-led and asynchronous courseware that establishes and delivers on clear objectives, engages leaners, conveys real-world understanding, and positively impacts student quality of work.
    • 10 %: Support international teams in developing their capabilities in advanced learning technologies and in delivering multi-language offerings.

    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Gathers and documents requirements for learning projects, identifying necessary functional components and production activities.
    • Determines instructional end goals and works cooperatively with subject matter experts to create course materials that support those goals.
    • Follows consistent directory structure, file naming conventions, courseware template adherence, visual continuity, consistency and professional standards for all learning products and reviews deliverables for completeness and technical functionality.
    • Leads projects to ensure timely, on-budget, successful completion. Activities may include identifying processes, steps, and timelines; producing status reports; coordinating with staff involved to ensure effective transitions from one step to the next; and finding solutions to issues, escalating where appropriate.
    • Collaborates with subject matter experts to develop engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer.
    • Works with LMS administrators to design, develop, and implement learning modules into training delivery systems.
    • Creates outlines, storyboards, scripts, training aids, activities, assessments, and other deliverables for a variety of broad range of training/learning needs. This includes working cooperatively with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop content architecture.
    • Creates and maintains digital assets for eLearning and live courses.
    • Creates or coordinates with internal and/or external resources/suppliers for various media for each learning product – may include graphic design, animation, video, audio, and photography.
    • Adapts instructional materials created for classroom format to webinar/eLearning format.
    • Manages project schedules and documentation and maintains official course materials.
    • Implements ongoing improvements to course materials in response to student feedback and trends in instructional design principles and technology.
    • Reviews and updates existing course materials to keep it current.
    • Provides assistance in organizing and facilitating training sessions as needed.

    Who USP is Looking For?

    The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

    • BS or MA degree in instructional design, educational technology or similar.
    • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in instructional design on scientific content.
    • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in PowerPoint and other MS Office applications.
    • Minimum five (5) years’ experience with authoring tools such as Captivate, Articulate, and Storyline.
    • Experience with Learning Management Systems.
    • Experience developing and conducting instructor-led training, either live or via webcast.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proven ability to plan and manage projects and multiple priorities concurrently with strong results/goal orientation. Adaptable to changing priorities.
    • Ability to influence without direct authority and to foster strong, collaborative relationships with science content owners and other team members.
    • Visual design skills and ability to storyboard.

    Additional Desired Preferences

    • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
    • Expert ability to create engaging learning experiences in MS PowerPoint.
    • Ability to write and edit effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts.
