    This position is in the Bureau of Training, reporting to the Basic Curriculum section. This is a full-time position that works closely with subject-matter experts to create textbooks, instructor guides, and stand-alone courses for criminal justice officers across the state of Florida. This position requires the ability to work in a collaborative writing environment, do research, collect data, and create curriculum specifically designed for adult learners. The position also requires excellent facilitation and customer service skills.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Specific duties include:

    • Develop curricula, to include goals and objectives, textbooks, instructor guides, online courses, and evaluation methodologies, such as proficiency forms for High Liability courses;
    • Plan, coordinate, facilitate and deliver formal and informal presentations, meetings and/or workshops;
    • Assist in the research and analysis of the effectiveness of training programs using summative and formative methods;
    • Assist in the research and design of a detailed plan to support CJSTC-approved training courses; and
    • Assist in the development and/or revision of legislation and/or Florida Administrative Code Rules effecting law enforcement, corrections, and correctional probation officer training.

    To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience in planning, research and analysis, evaluation, or administrative work; or
    • A high school diploma or its equivalent and seven years of experience in planning, research and analysis, evaluation, or administrative work; or
    • Any combination of education or experience, as described above, for a total of seven years.
    • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of the required experience.

    Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of coursework from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication;
    • Knowledge of laws, rules, policies and procedures relating to criminal justice training programs;
    • Knowledge of the techniques for planning, implementing or evaluating criminal justice training programs;
    • Knowledge of principles of effective design for web-based and instructor-led training;
    • Knowledge of graphic design principles;
    • Knowledge of the criminal justice system;
    • Knowledge of the methods of data collection;
    • Knowledge of the principles of human behavior, learning and communication;
    • Knowledge of instructional design, research, and implementation methodologies;
    • Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
    • Skill in written and verbal communication;
    • Skill in basic data collection and analysis;
    • Skill in using design and elearning development software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, etc.);
    • Skill in creating online and instructor-led educational content;
    • Ability to compile and analyze data relating to the development of training programs;
    • Ability to understand and apply applicable laws, rules, regulations policies and procedures relating to the development of training programs;
    • Ability to conduct research;
    • Ability to develop new methods and techniques of training;
    • Ability to work independently;
    • Ability to use problem solving techniques;
    • Ability to prepare professional papers, research studies and reports;
    • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
    • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and systems;
    • Ability to interact effectively with others and maintain working relationships; and
    • Ability to work on multiple, complex projects.

    BASE SALARY:

    • $48,876.45

    ASSIGNMENT:

    In order to proceed in the selection process, you must submit a response to the following. Your response must be submitted to Curriculum@fdle.state.fl.us no later than noon on April 21, 2023.

    Instructions

    This assignment has three sections.

    Section 1: Text for Students – Write a brief overview of a topic you know well* (it does not have to be related to the criminal justice profession). The audience for this overview is primarily adults with at least a high school education, but who have no knowledge about the topic. The overview should be between 350 and 500 words.

    Section 2: Guide for Instructors – Design an activity (or activities) to help the instructor teach the concepts in the student guide. The activity should not exceed 500 words.

    Section 3: Explanation – Include a brief explanation of why the activity you designed in Section2 is appropriate for adult learners and how it reinforces the concepts in the overview in Section 1. The explanation should not exceed 300 words.

    For all three sections:

    • Write in plain English
    • Use active voice
    • Avoid jargon and define terms that might be unfamiliar to your audience

    • You should be able to write this from your own knowledge and experience, but cite your sources if you do any research. All writing must be your own original work.
