    This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with demonstrated training and experience in instructional design and development, and adult learning. The Instructional Designer will play a key role in driving training improvement for social welfare workforces. The Instructional Designer will lead a multi-agency Workforce Development Committee of professionals with social welfare experience (e.g., social workers, trainers, managers, administrative staff, IT specialists, and evaluators) to develop and administer a system for designing and implementing evidence-based, best-practice, and innovative workforce development products (e.g., training, eLearning, micro-learning, simulation, conferences, webinars, infographics, and more), tailored for diverse social welfare workforces.

    The Instructional Designer will convene and manage a multi-agency workgroup(s) to give stakeholders a voice in instructional development, build instructional development capacity, and keep stakeholders informed of instructional product development. The Instructional Designer will report to the University Workforce Development Director and also collaborate with the Executive Director, Director of Evaluation, and DCFS leadership to conduct workforce development needs assessments as needed to identify instructional development requirements. The Instructional Designer will also collaborate with the Director of Evaluation on the development evaluation of workforce development products, policies, and programs.

    A successful Instructional Designer will be efficient, creative, collaborative, communicative, self-driven, innovative, client-focused, and accountable.

    Required/Preferred

    Demonstrated experienced instructional design and writing with success in promoting workforce development in social welfare, preferably child welfare.

    Required

    Master’s degree in social welfare or related field with equivalent combination of work and/or educational experience.

    Required

    Demonstrated successful experience with public child welfare instructional design and development, and adult learning.

    Required

    Ability to develop and implement innovative and best practices teaching and training strategies and modalities and leading trends in policy, practice, interventions, training, research, and literature in public child welfare.

    Required

    Demonstrated successful leadership and management skills, with a record of coaching and developing team members.

    Required

    Demonstrated successful independent work and leadership, including collaboration and innovation.

    Required

    Requires weekly travel throughout Los Angeles to local universities, DCFS county offices, and county administrative and training locations; is ability to travel two-three times monthly throughout California, occasionally overnight within the continental United States.

    Required

    Valid California driver’s license, automobile, and automobile insurance required.

    Required

    Ability to work effectively with graduate social work faculty at all IUC universities and IUC Centers.

    Required

    Recent experience as a social worker with a large-scale urban public child welfare agency serving a diverse community.

    Demonstrated experience working with information technology staff with expertise in databases, learning All Preferred management systems, e-learning, and business intelligence systems
