    Summary:

    Serves as curriculum/instructional designer of classroom courses and informal training products in a corporate training environment that demonstrate sound instructional principles, strategies, and techniques for adult learners.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Conducts needs assessment and analysis, designs appropriate instructional approach, and works on a team to design, develop, pilot, implement, and evaluate training for an adult, professional audience
    • Develops and revises/updates courses and informal training products that use a range of methods, from lecture-based to experiential, as appropriate to the content, learning objectives, and associated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), with the goal of structuring the learning experience so that it results in transformation – deep, nuanced understanding and dramatically improved performance
    • Integrates educational technologies and continuous learning techniques to enhance the learning experience, maximize achievement of learning objectives, and facilitate transfer of learning to the workplace or personal setting, as appropriate to the course goals
    • Collaborates with Subject Matter Expert/s (SME) to conduct needs/audience analysis; develops training objectives, evaluation strategy, and course/product outline; designs course/product content; develops scaffolded, interactive course activities and assessment items
    • Compiles and organizes information, writes and edits instructional materials to adapt policies and procedures, regulations, reference documents, and raw materials into clear, effective, interactive, and experiential training
    • Designs and leads sessions with all participants in the curriculum development cycle, for the purposes of needs assessment, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of courses and programs
    • Integrates formative assessment throughout the course design, both to ensure that learners can track their progress and that instructional staff are able to measure the extent to which learning is progressing as intended. Uses checklists and rubrics for performance-based assessment, as well as quizzes and tests for assessment of developing knowledge
    • Designs needs assessments and survey questionnaires used to gather data on training needs, reactions, application and organizational impact

    Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

    • Knowledge of learning theories and their application to instructional design
    • Experience completing needs assessments that use data to demonstrate business needs, performance gaps, and the resulting Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) required to address the need and performance gaps
    • Experience as a member of a team and a team leader; positive interpersonal skills and a customer-service orientation, particularly with clients from a wide variety of cultures.
    • Fluency in the English language
    • Two to three years of experience in a related field (or experience as described in the labor category)
    • Superior organization skills with a high level of attention to detail
    • Effective oral and written communication skills
    • The ability to follow technical direction as delivered by Government/customer representatives
    • The ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • The ability to work effectively independently and on a team with colleagues in various employment categories, such as civil and foreign service government employees and other contract employees
    • The ability to effectively use Microsoft Office business applications (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and SharePoint), virtual collaboration platforms, and other technical software sufficient to meet the needs of their specific position with the ability to learn new emerging technologies as necessary.

    Minimum Qualification:

    • A high school diploma
    • Minimum 3 years of curriculum/needs assessment experience or 2 years curriculum/needs assessment experience plus BS/ BA (or higher) degree in related field
    • Minimum 1 year of instructional design experience demonstrating a wide variety of classroom, blended, and experiential training approaches and a varied range of topics including, but not limited to, foreign affairs, tradecraft, foreign language, leadership, or applications/IT systems training

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with eLearning or microlearning
    • Experience in blending learning design
    • Experience in experiential learning, gaming, and/or simulations
    • Experience integrating flipped design methods.
