Hybrid Workforce Management Startup Gable raises $16m

Hybrid Workforce Management Startup Gable raises $16m

Gable, a start-up that assists distributed companies in managing office space for their workforce, has secured $16 million in funding led by SemperVirens and Foundation Capital, with participation from Tishman Speyer Ventures, Ulu Ventures, and January Ventures. The startup plans to expand its sales, customer success, and marketing workforce. Gable intends to target larger enterprise customers, spreading its roof further. It also wants to extend its product offering and hire more engineers and product team employees in its Israeli offices to facilitate this.

Co-founded by Liza Mash Levin and Omri Haviv, Gable strives to empower companies and employees to embrace distributed work and maximise what it offers. It provides a one-stop shop for managing employees’ remote working options. Through the platform, employees can search for and book a spot at a locally available workspace in 26 countries, and employers can manage payments. The startup claims that its service supports multiple teams within a company, from HR and people operations to real estate and workplace teams, saving both time and money.

The company provides a portal where employees can view where their co-workers are working and book a desk alongside them while the company can monitor employee satisfaction and manage budgets.

According to recent surveys, 98 million United States workers have the option to work remotely, while 77% of respondents desire greater workplace flexibility, and an increasing number of employees are reporting burnout, disconnection, and disengagement.

Speaking about the company, Co-founder & CEO of Gable, Liza Mash Levin, said:

The most challenging task for a product team is to build simple solutions people want to use, so, naturally, that’s what I’m passionate about. There’s no better feeling than showing someone a demo of Gable and them being amazed by its capabilities and simplicity.

Levin further added:

We’re expanding our product offering to provide a hybrid management solution that will become a one-stop-shop for People and Workplace teams to have complete visibility and control over their workforce, whether in flex space or leased spaces. Another exciting thing we’re focusing on [is] deepening the insights and data we can surface based on tracking employee bookings and behaviour. With this, we’ll be able to help people-leaders be more data-driven.

The HRTech platform claims that over 5,000 employees are using its service. It also reports that employees have enjoyed a 4x to 5x increase in productivity, collaboration, and satisfaction since switching to it. Now, Gable want to bring this improvement in engagement to more businesses and more employees. It aims to make itself as ubiquitous as Slack or Microsoft Teams and be part of every company’s essential toolkit for managing its hybrid workforce.

Moodle Educators – Archive and remove past courses using the Course Archiver Plugin

Moodle Educators - Archive and remove past courses using the Course Archiver Plugin
Moodle Educators - Archive and remove past courses using the Course Archiver Plugin

Moodle LMS is used by more than 350 million users in more than 238 countries. In more than last 20 years Moodle LMS has been one of the most popular open source Learning management system in the world. With more than 2085 plugins in the official plugins repository, customising Moodle is pretty easy. In this post, I will share about the Course Archives plugin which allows you to archive and remove past courses easily.

All teachers might have faced problems while setting up their courses for the next session and need to plan for the year-end procedures. Moodle allows to reuse the courses once created by backing up and restoring them. However, according to statutory requirements, the institutions required the user data to be retained for a certain period.

The Course Archiver plugin is used to search for courses, notify the course owners, and mass hide or archive (backup and remove) courses. The course archiver plugin allows you to search for courses based on all possible criteria including teacher name, course name, start/end date, created before/after date, accessed before/after date etc.

You can also customize the template emails which will be used to send to the owners of the selected courses to notify them that their course(s) will be hidden or archived. You can also delay  he deletion of archived courses with a specified duration.

Overall, the plugin seems to be pretty useful for administrators to help them setup Moodle for next session. You can easily archive courses in bulk by using the Course Archiver plugin. You can download the plugin from the official plugins directory here.

What are the other plugins which you are using during your year end procedures? Please share with us in the comments section below.

Language Learning Platform Duolingo Launches Literacy App for Kids’ Duolingo ABC’ in India

Duolingo, an American language learning platform, has recently launched its kid’s literacy app, ‘Duolingo ABC’ in India. The new platform is specially designed to assist children between the ages of three and eight years learn, how to read and write in English. Learning experts create it; the free-to-use app offers over 700 concise lessons covering the alphabet, phonics, and sight words.

An official statement said the program provides a unique learning approach with nine distinct levels. Duolingo ABC’ app has a child-friendly interface; it aims to assist children in learning to read independently in a fun and straightforward way. We know that teaching people to read and write can change lives, and by taking everything we know about how people learn languages, with Duolingo ABC, we want to use our expertise in encouraging and motivating kids to build a strong literacy foundation.

The app features personalised lessons such as teaching children how to write their own name and letter writing activities that teaches each lowercase and capital letter to kids, as per the release. According to research by The Education Development Center, the teaching methodology used by Duolingo ABC has also shown to improve literacy scores by 28% among kids who used the app for 9 weeks, the release added.

Moodle Educators – Let students make canvas sketch games using this plugin

Moodle Educators - Let students make canvas sketch games using this plugin
Moodle Educators - Let students make canvas sketch games using this plugin

Moodle LMS allows you to extend new features by using Moodle plugins. There are close to 2100 official plugins in the Moodle plugins directory. You can add course formats, themes, activities, blocks, authentication methods to extend Moodle’s features. In this post, I will share my views about the HTML5 Canvas Sketch Game plugin.

The HTML5 Canvas Sketch Game plugin is a simple Moodle activity plugin which allows you to add a canvas to your course. The students can create their own sketches in the Canvas area. It can be quite handy for elementary school teachers who can use it to let students showcase their creativity using the sketch.

The Canvas is pretty simple to use and takes no time to get started. It comes with clear button and toolbar with the following features:

  • Saving sketch
  • Restore sketch
  • Add toolbar images
  • Set background image
  • Student upload own image
  • Delete sketch
  • GDPR provider
  • Backup / restore integrated
  • Mustache templates

During my test with the Canvas Sketch plugin, I really like the capability to save the sketches and download it as PNG image file. You can also upload your own image to create your own sketch, which can help the students to start with their own concept instead of starting from scratch.

As a teacher you can also upload a background image which can be used as a sketch competition among students. It also comes with a handy color picker which allows you to choose your own color.

You can download the HTML5 Canvas Sketch Game plugin from the official Moodle plugins directory here. If you are new to Moodle, please follow this guide to learn how to install a Moodle plugin. If you are using Moodle for junior students, then you should explore this game plugin as it can be useful for your students.

What are the other useful plugins you are using on Moodle? Please share with us in the comments section below.
