Khan Academy Introduces Free Online Course ‘Khan for Educators’ to Empower Teachers Across India

Khan Academy India, a non-profit educational organization, announced the launch of ‘Khan For Educators’, a free online certification course for the professional growth of teachers in India. The course includes educational videos instructing teachers on utilizing Khan Academy to manage their students and monitor their progress.

Khan For Educators course is designed to enable teachers to integrate Khan Academy into their day-to-day teaching practice and mitigate the challenges of using an online tool. In addition, there are dedicated learning modules for school principals and teacher educators to support teachers effectively. The creation of this course was funded by Indiamart, India’s largest online B2B marketplace.

According to an official statement, the programme aims to equip them with innovative teaching methodologies, such as mastery-based and differentiated learning. This certification course is accessible at no cost and is offered in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Marathi.

Speaking about the launch of the ‘Khan For Educators’ course, Managing Director of Khan Academy India, Swati Vasudevan, said:

We are on a mission to provide free, world-class education to anyone anywhere, and it is only possible if we equally empower teachers with pedagogical guidance and learning opportunities such as Khan For Educators course. This course is now available in more languages so that teachers can study in their own language, enhancing their teaching strategies and, ultimately, improving student outcomes. We are thankful to the Indiamart team for supporting our vision and funding this project.

In India, Khan Academy works closely with multiple state governments to make quality learning content available in low-cost public and govt schools, thereby bridging the education gap between private and metropolitan schools. In this process, Khan Academy is committed to supporting teachers with in-person coaching, creating a helpdesk to troubleshoot teacher queries, and introducing self-paced learning for teachers via Khan for educator’s course.

This online course effectively supports teachers anywhere in India and helps them learn at their own pace, which is otherwise impossible via other methods. Teachers now have access to world-class training opportunities in their language (limited to three regional languages) with certification that acknowledges their efforts to keep up to date in the field of education.

However, the new course has been upgraded to include the emerging technology trends in education and made available in the regional languages of Marathi and Punjabi to support teachers from regional medium schools. Khan Academy aims to train over 25,000 teachers from govt schools in partnership with various state partners in 2023-24.

Use “Create an Animation” feature to bring your Canva designs to life

Use "Create an Animation" feature to bring your Canva designs to life

Canva – all in one design making tool has brought many AI based new features in the recently concluded Canva Create 2023. One of the most notable features among all which I liked most is the ability to record your own animations. In this post, we will see how you can record your own animations in Canva designs.

The record your own animation features allow you to select your own design elements and scroll them on the screen in the way you want them to animate. This can help you to use your elements more creatively and create more engaging designs for your students. instead of using the regular animations like Wipe, breathe, Fade etc, this will open all new possibilities.

How to create your own animations in Canva Designs:

Here is a short tutorial to get you started:

You can follow these steps also:

  1. Go to Canva Design where you want to record your own animation.
  2. Select the element which you want to animate.
  3. Click the ‘Animate’ Button at the top.
  4. Then under ‘Photo Animations’ tab, choose Create an Animation on the top.
  5. Drag the element on the screen in the order to create your animation.
  6. You can also control the speed of your animations to move the elements slower or faster.

Overall, I am impressed with this new feature introduced in the Canva design tool. You can also have a look at it in your Canva app and start creating more meaningful animations for your students. Please share how you will be using this new feature for your classroom in the comments section below.

Student-Run Startup Plutus Raises $280k in Pre-Seed Round Led by Campus Fund

Student-Run Startup Plutus Raises $280k in Pre-Seed Round Led by Campus Fund
Student-Run Startup Plutus Raises $280k in Pre-Seed Round Led by Campus Fund

Plutus, a creator-first platform building business and financial infrastructure for creators, announced their pre-Seed round of funding from Campus Fund and other investors including CIIE – IIM Ahmedabad, Shruti (co-founder, ApnaKlub) and Alagu Preiyannan (co-founder, Bluejeans). With the fresh capital, the company plans to build new tools to expand the monetisation potential for content creators and deepen partnerships with creators and fans.

Co-founded in June 2021 by students Karata Dasmahapatra, Shivanshu Tyagi and Sambhav Jain, Plutus focuses on deepening interactions between creators and their fans through a mix of community games, both live and hypercasual. The startup claims to work with over 3,000 creators across India, along with a waitlist of more than 10,000 creators.

Unlike other platforms, Plutus has developed a pay-as-you-go structure that enables creators to earn more than they would through subscriptions or workshops, and even surpass advertiser promotions in some cases. Plutus intends to utilize the funds raised to expand its reach in India and Southeast Asia and launch a new collection of hyper-casual games and features, according to Karata Dasmahapatra, the co-founder, and CEO.

According to the company, the creator economy is growing at a CAGR of 25-30% and is one of the fastest-growing sectors today. Creators, especially micro-influencers, don’t earn a stable income through ad revenue since this largely depends on the number of views, followers and subscribers to their content. While social media platforms have evolved, their experience remains the same – creators make content, and fans consume it.

Commenting on the fundraising, Co-founder & CEO of Plutus, Karata Dasmahapatra, said:

Plutus has changed the norm by building a single platform with a two-way flow of content via live rooms, group chats, creator-led games, integrated payments and analytics. With an innovative pay-as-you-go structure, creators can earn more than subscriptions or workshops from their user base and, in some cases, more than advertiser promotions. With this fundraise, Plutus aims to expand across India and South East Asia and launch a new set of hyper-casual games and features.

Shlok Vora, Student Associate of Campus Fund and part of the Plutus deal team added:

What impressed us most is that the Plutus team has always been nimble in innovating new features for creators to connect better with their fans. The creator economy is at an inflection point, and Plutus is positioned well to become the Shopify for creators.

Moodle Admins – Automatically sort courses in a category using Re-sort Courses

Moodle Admins - Automatically sort courses in a category using Re-sort Courses
Moodle Admins - Automatically sort courses in a category using Re-sort Courses

Moodle LMS is one the most flexible and customizable open-source Learning Management System in the world. It allows you to add new features or customize existing features by using Moodle plugins. In this post we will see how you can use the Re-sort Courses Moodle plugin.

The Re-sort Courses Moodle plugin sorts a category page automatically as soon as a course has been added or modified. This can be helpful for the administrators to sort the courses in a category without any manual intervention.

In Moodle core, the admins can sort the courses within a category but that needs a manual task for each category. Moodle core does not take care that Moodle course categories are sorted automatically.

This Re-sort courses plugin helps you save a lot of time. After installing this plugin, as soon as a course has been added or modified in a category, the plugin verifies that the containing category page is automatically sorted just as it would be sorted when you change the sorting filter on the course category management page.

To have a fine grain control over your course categories, you can choose the default sort order as well as skip categories. You can download the latest version of the Re-sort courses Moodle plugin from the official plugin’s directory here.

This can provide one of the handy features for the Moodle administrators to get rid of this senseless job of pushing the sorting button manually.

What are the other popular Moodle plugins which you are using on your Moodle site? Please share with us in the comments section below.
