Technology-Focused Recruitment Platform Hackajob Raises $25M in Series B Round

hackajob, a full-stack technical hiring platform, recently announced that it has raised $25 million in its Series B round led by Boston-based growth equity firm Volition Capital, with participation from existing investors AXA Venture Partners and Foresight. With this investment round, the UK-based company plans to accelerate its expansion in the US and deliver on its vision of becoming the end-to-end hiring platform for enterprises to scale their technology teams.

By creating the best-in-class experience with a candidate-centric platform, tech professionals can leverage hackajob to learn new skills, participate in community events, engage directly with employers, and ultimately find their next role.

Commenting on the fundraising, Co-founder & CEO of hackajob, Mark Chaffey, said:

We’re entering an age where every business is becoming a tech company thanks to the value of data and the vital need for digitization both internally and across all customer-facing operations. Our Series B funding is part of our strategic growth plan to help all organizations – not just those in Silicon Valley – respond to this challenge. Following a successful entry to the market, we’re excited to accelerate our expansion into the US whilst continuing to grow in the UK.

Co-founded by Mark Chaffey and Razvan Creanga in 2014, hackajob has built a hiring platform for companies to grow their permanent tech teams. Its modular product suite enables companies to directly source talent through their two-sided marketplace, build an employer brand for their community of over half a million technology professionals, conduct online assessments and remote interviews and generate insights into a company’s diversity and inclusion performance. Underpinning their platform are over 50 million first-party data points on technical professionals that power their proprietary AI matching engine.

Chaffey further added:

To close such a notable round of investment in the current climate demonstrates not only the opportunity ahead of us, but the progression hackajob has made over the years from an idea to a high-growth startup which raised a series A that enabled us to set the foundations throughout 2019 to seize the opportunity that came from Covid and ultimately become the company we are today. It was a highly competitive process. Given their deep expertise in investing in category-leading HR Tech companies, we’re delighted to choose Sean and Volition Capital as our partners for the next growth phase.

Technology is going through a paradigm shift with the rise of Generative AI and Large Language Models. We’ve already incorporated these models into our candidate onboarding journey, and given the incredible amount of first-party data we’re sitting on; this investment round fundamentally enables us to reimagine what tech hiring looks like for both candidates and enterprises over the next decade, he noted.

Through a full-stack hiring platform, companies can directly source talent through a two-sided marketplace, craft a compelling employer brand to a community of over 500k tech professionals, conduct online assessments and remote interviews, and generate powerful insights about their diversity and inclusion performance. Sean Cantwell, Managing Partner, Volition Capital, added:

The tech employment ecosystem has outstanding growth potential in our digital-first world with increasing demand for software developers and engineers. Hackajob’s offering, ambitious management team, and established network of high-quality tech talent have positioned the company for rapid expansion in the US market. We are confident in partnering with Hackajob to help them become the go-to destination for developers and enterprises.

Moodle Teachers - Use Invitation plugin to send course invitations to users by email

Moodle LMS is one of the most popular open-source learning management system in the world. It has more than 360 million users around the world. The vast collection of Moodle Plugins allows you to easily extend the features in all areas to meet your learning specific requirements. In this post, we will see how you can send email invitations to your users to let them access your course.

The Invitation Moodle plugin allows instructors to invite students to their course and site and grant necessary access and role to them. The invitation is sent via email and contains a link with a unique, one-time use invitation token. When the user clicks on the link and logs into the site, (s)he is automatically enrolled into the course and the invitation link is marked as used.

You can also do a similar thing by sharing an enrolment key with your students, but the Invitation plugin offers the following benefits:

  • You can control who can use the invitation.
  • You can see a history of past invitations and their status.
  • You can also see who used an invitation or which ones are expired.
  • You can resend expired invitations or send reminder invitations.

You can download the invitation Moodle plugin from the official repository here. In case you are new to Moodle, please go through this guide to learn how to install a Moodle plugin. After installing, you need to add the enrolment method to your Moodle course.

Once the Invitation enrollment method has been added, invitations can be sent by doing the following:

  • Go to the course.
  • Use the Participants button in the navigation drawer.
  • Use the Invite user’s button.
  • Complete the invitation fields and then use the Invite user’s button to send the invitation.
  • Note that the invitation will expire, by default, in 2 weeks. You can check the status of the invite by clicking on the Invite history tab.
  • Depending on the status of the invitation, you may have the following actions available:
    • “Revoke invite”: Will set the expiration of an active invitation to the current time. This will disable the use of the invitation link sent to the user.
    • “Extend invite”: Will resent the invitation and extend the expiration of an active invitation.
    • “Resend invite”: For an expired invitation, will pre-fill the invitation form with the same settings used when the original invite was sent.

Teachers – Use this smart trick to open any YouTube Video without any distractions

Teachers - Use this smart trick to open any YouTube Video without any distractions
Teachers - Use this smart trick to open any YouTube Video without any distractions

YouTube is one of the most helpful video resource portal which can be used for all sort of lessons. Modern educators look around YouTube as their first source of information. The platform is filled with all sorts of educational videos and modern trends. In this post, we will see how you can use YouTube videos in your classroom without the surrounding distracting elements.

In recent years, YouTube has become an essential tool for educators to enhance the learning experience of students. With millions of videos available on the platform, it offers a vast library of content to use in the classroom.

While using the YouTube videos in your online classroom can increase the student learning and grab their attention. But on the other hand, with a lot of distracting elements like Advertisements, Recommended videos, and Comments, it is difficult for students to remain focused.

Luckily, there is a smart trick which you can use to use any YouTube video in your online classroom without any distraction. Your students will be able to focus on the video content. To do that, all you need is to just copy the YouTube video URL. For Example, while searing for Lesson plan, I found this video in YouTube here –

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPpW9UVb_90

But if I use this link to embed it in my course, it may produce other distracting elements like Comments, recommended videos etc. You can simply launch this video in full screen mode by adding “_popup” after the word “watch” in the video URL. So, if instead of the above-mentioned link, I will use the below one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=XPpW9UVb_90

You can make use of this feature to let your students focus more on their learning instead of wandering around on other stuff on YouTube.

What are the other useful features which you would like to share with other educators? Please share with us in the comments section below.
