Moodle teachers - Use the FastTest plugin to create Moodle Questions in Excel

Moodle LMS is one of the most popular open-source Learning Management system (LMS) in the world. It is used by more than 360 million users across 242 countries. In this post we will discuss about the FastTest Moodle plugin which allows you to easily write most of the Moodle Question types in Microsoft Excel.

The FastTest Plugin is essentially a Utility which allows you to write Moodle Questions in Microsoft Excel. After writing the questions, you can export them in xml format and then import in Moodle question bank. To use the FastTest plugin, you should have the Microsoft Excel Desktop app as the web version will not work. Also you need to allow the permission to use Macro’s in Excel.

You can download the FastTest plugin from the official Moodle plugins repository here. The download package includes many files which serves different purpose as below:

  • FastTest – PlugIn.xlsm (executable with macros)
  • FastTest – DataBase.xlsx (file necessary to export the questions and save backup copies in an orderly manner)
  • FastTest – DataBase – Example.xlsx (file with sample questions, written in Spanish)
  • MOODLE.xml (file necessary for MAC users to generate the file to import into Moodle).
  • FastTest – Game.xls (file to export Multiple Choice 1 Correct Answer questions to a game.

You need to go through the FastTest Plugin.xlsm file and start creating your questions. With this utility plugin you will be able to focus more on writing your questions instead of navigating through various pages.

Once you have written them in the plugin, the XML file is generated, just by pressing a button. To upload the question bank in Moodle, you only need to import the XML file to the platform.

What are the other creative ways you are using to create Questions for your Moodle course? Please share with us in the comments section below.

HireQuotient Launches ChatGPT-Powered Future of Talent Sourcing EasySource

HireQuotient, a Singapore-based HRTech startup that automates interviews and hiring processes for companies, announced the launch of EasySource, the world’s first fully automated talent-sourcing with embedded ChatGPT. As a part of the development, EasySource helps recruiters create curated talent pipelines and engage candidates effectively with minimal human intervention to reduce time-to-hire drastically.

It is a free product geared for sourcing candidates for sales & marketing roles in the US. The platform utilizes cutting-edge technology to identify the most relevant job seekers from active and passive talent pools based on their skills, interests, relevant experience and US work authorization.

To engage qualified candidates, the product hyper-personalizes communication across email and LinkedIn using embedded ChatGPT and automates multi-channel outreach using workflows optimized for generating the maximum response. Speaking on the launch, Chief Executive Officer of HireQuotient, Smarthveer Sidana, said:

The philosophy behind building EasySource was to empower recruiters to ‘find the right talent, right now’. We are proud of the capabilities we have built into this product that expands recruiters’ bandwidth exponentially as they discover a top talent for any role and engage them at scale with hyper-personalized messaging. This has been made possible only because of our vast experience in the HR Tech space, which has given us deep insights into the challenges recruiters face in building a robust talent pipeline.

Recruiters can automate outreach to candidates on their email IDs, send them a LinkedIn connection request, and send them a LinkedIn InMail with personalized messaging. They can manage candidate responses within the dashboard and visualize the talent pipeline at multiple levels based on their evaluation of the candidates.

The launch of EasySource comes when organizations need help finding and hiring qualified candidates from highly skewed talent pools. EasySource provides a much-needed solution to this problem by simplifying the sourcing process and enabling organizations to identify and engage with the right talent.

Co-founded by Smarthveer Sidana and Eugene Goh in 2021, HireQuotient helps companies test business skills at scale and engage realistically with potential hires. The company aims to disrupt the hiring process for business roles globally. With a suite of products and solutions spanning talent sourcing to assessment and interviewing, the startup offers organizations a streamlined and efficient approach to identifying and hiring top talent. Its innovative products and solutions are used by over 100 organizations, including BCG, Accenture and DHL to name a few.

AI-Powered Video Interview Platform VireUp Raises Funds at $4.1M Valuation

VireUp, an AI-powered automated video interview and training platform, has recently received an undisclosed amount in funding from Estonia-based Startup Wise Guys and angel investors at a $4.1 million (£3.3 million) valuation, according to a report. The London-based company plans to utilize the fresh capital to improve its algorithms, introduce new products and scale up services in targeted markets.

Co-founded by Efe Pazarçeviren and Arda Çelebi in 2019, VireUp aims to help recruiters make fast, well-informed, data-driven and unbiased decisions while providing a fair opportunity and a more rewarding experience for the applicants.

VireUp’s vision is to revolutionize job interviews by moving from the traditional question-and-answer model to a dynamic conversation. The platform wants to help recruiters hire the candidates that have the best fit for a role while also allowing all applicants to interview for any position providing them with the best experience. It also aims to remove the stress and uncertainty from job interviews and make them productive for everyone involved.

While the recruitment firm is based in the UK, its co-founders are from Turkey. According to Pazarçeviren, the company has an extensive network and customers there.

Moodle Teachers – Bulk Enrol users in your course easily just by their email address

Moodle Teachers - Bulk Enrol users in your course easily just by their email address
Moodle Teachers - Bulk Enrol users in your course easily just by their email address

Moodle LMS is one of the most flexible learning management systems (LMS) int he world. The Moodle plugins collection allows you to add new functionality and customise it according to your requirements. In this post we will see one of such extremely useful Moodle plugin which can help save a lot of time for your teachers by bulk enrolment.

The User bulk enrolment Moodle plugin allows the teachers to simply bulk enrol students in their courses using their email address. It is intended to save the time requirements of manual enrolment wherein a teacher has to go and search each user one by one and enrol.

With the User Bulk Enrolment plugin, the teachers can just create a list of students email address and then paste it to enrol them in the course. This can be a huge time saver for the teachers who are doing in manually in all of their courses. The User Bulk Enrolment plugin also supports adding students to the group.

How to use the User Bulk Enrolment Moodle plugin

You can download the user bulk enrolment plugin from the official Moodle plugins database here. If you are new to Moodle, please follow this guide to learn how to install a Moodle plugin. Once installed and enabled by site administrator, as a teacher you can start using this plugin.

You will see a “User bulk enrolment” menu item within the jump menu on the course’s participant’s page. To enrol existing Moodle users into the course, the teacher will then have to add a list of e-mail adresses to the form on this page, one user / e-mail address per line.

Optionally, the teacher will be able to create groups and add the enroled users to the groups. All he must do is to add a heading line with a hash sign and the group’s name, separating the list of users. Example:

# Group 1
alice@example.com
bob@example.com
# Group 2
carol@example.com
dave@example.com

But before using the plugin, you need to make sure that the user account is already created in Moodle. This plugin will only enrol the users in your course. It won’t create Moodle user accounts on-the-fly.

What is the other time saving tips you are using with your Moodle LMS. Please share with us in the comments section below.
