We are thrilled to welcome such a diverse group of strategic investors who closely align with our next growth stage. This round of funding allows us to develop our technology further to alleviate the pain points of hiring on recruiting teams globally. Student Recruitment Platform Springpod Raises €3.4M From Edge

Springpod, a UK-based online student recruitment platform that connects young people with employers & education providers, has raised £3 million (approximately €3.4M) in a financing round led by Edge, a venture capital firm focused on investing in creative teams and emerging technologies.

Launched in 2018 by Sam Hyams and Oliver Fisher, Springpod is a specialist careers platform enabling young people to know the world of work and university to make informed decisions about their future through virtual work experience programs, virtual events and digital student engagement solutions. The company aims to enable young people to experience a university course or career before applying.

Commenting on the fundraising, Founder & CEO of Springpod, Sam Hyams, said:

We are delighted to partner with Edge and are excited to draw upon their extensive creative economy expertise. We pride ourselves on creating Netflix-quality content for young people to experience careers and courses with leading employers and universities.

Hyams further added:

Edge’s focus on driving social mobility for young people and backing innovative, creative startups aligns perfectly with Springpod. We are excited to scale our impact together from the 400,000 young people we have supported to date to millions.

Investment Manager of Edge, Hannah Williamson, commented:

Edge is thrilled to partner with Springpod to power its next growth phase. We are excited about supporting the team to achieve its mission, enabling young people to experience a university course or career before they apply. Due to a lack of advice, young people often choose the wrong career or course. This has major implications for their future and high costs for universities & employers when students drop out. Springpod has partnered with universities and employers to create experiential learning programmes, empowering students by providing equal access to opportunity.

The startup claims to have supported over 400,000 students, facilitating access to virtual tasters of university courses and online work experience. Springpod works with clients, including one-third of UK universities and employers, Airbus, Siemens, Vodafone, Fujitsu, the NHS, and many more.

What is TeachAI? A new resource for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching

What is TeachAI? A new resource for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching
What is TeachAI? A new resource for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching

TeachAI is a new resource for educators and edtech leaders launched by Code.org, ETS, ISTE, Khan Academy, and World Economic Forum. The website TeachAI.org will serve as a new resource portal offering policy and pedagogical recommendations for Artificial Intelligence in teaching.

TeachAI aims to integrate AI education into primary and secondary curricula worldwide through new reports, policy recommendations, and public engagement opportunities.

The new portal will provide a global framework for computer education that includes AI and provide public engagement opportunities around AI for educators. TeachAI is launched as a response to explosion of interest in AI tools in education powered by ChatGPT and other AI tools.

Joseph South, Chief Learning Officer at ISTE, says his organization and others involved in TeachAI have been pushing for more AI resources for educators since long before ChatGPT was released. They’ve also wanted a space for various stakeholders to come together and discuss this exciting but also challenging modern technology.

“This is not a group of organizations that are coming together saying, ‘We have all the AI answers. Sit down and listen to us,’” South says. “This is a group of organizations saying, ‘We’ve been in this space for a long time. We’ve been thoughtful about issues, and we want to engage a larger conversation.’”

What TeachAI will offer for educators?

TeachAI will focus its initial efforts on three areas:

1. Policy and pedagogical recommendations for teaching with AI

Teach.AI will provide guidance and best practices around teaching with AI, safely and ethically, South says. “We’ll also write some vision around assessment, which I know is on everyone’s mind.” Another part of this process will be to bring all the resources already available from various Teach.AI stakeholders together in one place. “For example, ISTE already has five project guides that are open source and any teacher can use to bring AI into their classroom right now,” South says.

2. Develop a global framework for computer science, including AI

“The K-12 CS framework is going to be updated as part of this work,” South says. It will be expanded to include AI and will include recommendations for a global audience. This new framework will be designed to help guide standards, curriculum, professional learning, assessments, and policy.

3. Public engagement opportunities for educators and administrators

TeachAI will be a place to have a conversation around AI in education overall and will host webinars, blog posts, emails, and social media to collect input and share best practices. “It’s just making sure that communication is open,” South says. “A lot of people went out of the gate thinking, ‘Oh, we’re going to deal with this by banning ChatGPT,’ and they thought that was absolutely the right decision. Then they were surprised to get pushback. And that’s not because anybody was acting in bad faith, but because the conversations were being convened without everyone at the table.”

How Can Teachers Utilize TeachAI?

The educators who are interested in learning from TeachAI’s resources and future guidances, webinars, etc. can go to TeachAI.org and select the “get updates” button on the homepage to receive updates. Educators interested in taking a more active role with TeachAI can select the “join TeachAI” button located on the home page to potentially participate in the research and work the organization is conducting.

Organizations from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors are also welcome to join the partnership.

“Like any new technology, it’s going to be bumpy and wild, and we should expect some false starts,” South says. “We should expect stories of AI being used in ways that make us all uncomfortable, but I think we’ll also discover really exciting applications that make us excited for the future of teaching and learning.”

What Organizations Are Involved in TeachAI?

TeachAI will be coordinated by a steering committee formed by Code.org, Educational Testing Service (ETS), International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), Khan Academy, and World Economic Forum.

The effort will include input from tech companies such as Amazon, Cisco, Microsoft, and OpenAI, and education organizations such as AASA (The School Superintendents Association), College Board, Council of Chief State School Officers, National Association of State Boards of Education, National School Boards Association, as well as education ministries and associations from Brazil, Germany, Kenya, Malaysia, South Korea, UAE, UK, and other countries from six continents. These organizations reach millions of teachers and hundreds of millions of students worldwide.

Leverage Edu Launches University Operating System Univalley OS

Leverage Edu Launches University Operating System Univalley OS
Leverage Edu Launches University Operating System Univalley OS

Leverage Edu, the leading migration-tech platform for higher education, has launched Univalley OS, the world’s most comprehensive university operating system. Univalley OS is a University Saas solution that enables universities to streamline and automate student recruitment processes, from application assessment to payment tracking to visa issuance.

As a part of the initiative, Univalley OS leverages artificial intelligence to help universities assess applications 10x faster, receive and manage student payments in international currency, and conduct automated credibility interviews powered by AI. It also integrates with almost every existing CRM/CMS platform available with universities traditionally and offers free-of-cost migration for non-compatible software.

Founded in April 2017 by Akshay Chaturvedi, Leverage Edu helps students figure out what they should do, where they should be, wherever they are in the world – to realise their full potential. The platform allows students to navigate and assess their journey thus far, matches them to personalised mentors, counsels them towards their higher education dream with an employability lens, and ensures that everyone punches way above their weight to make dreams come alive and truly be able to level up.

The company has built an outcome-focused technology-led student counselling platform that gives them access to a one-stop dashboard for their entire study abroad journey. It helps students with services like visas, accommodation, and education loans.

Speaking on the launch, Founder & CEO of Leverage Edu, Akshay Chaturvedi, said:

At Leverage, we have had a product-first approach from day zero. We have always been intentional about never building anything for vanity’s sake. Reverse infact. How to solve for a stakeholder better. How to improve those input line items. How to build a deeper relationship. How to translate into better delight. Etc etc. etc.

To make the student experience increasingly seamless, we have engaged in extensive dialogue with partner universities for the last full year. What we learned was simple: we need to empathise with Universities as much as we can and solve for them – in an easy, simple, plug-and-play style. And that’s how Univalley.com came together, with my co-founders Digvijay, Aman and their insane teams spending countless hours on building this right up from ground zero to one; I am personally thrilled about everything the students will gain as a result of Universities adopting the Univalley OS.

Moodle Teachers – Restrict Course based on other Course Completion

Moodle Teachers - Restrict Course based on other Course Completion
Moodle Teachers - Restrict Course based on other Course Completion

Moodle LMS is one of the most popular open-source Learning Management System (LMS) in the world. It allows you to easily customize the functionality and adapt to your institution requirements. Many times, Moodle teachers want to let students complete a course before allowing them the access to another course. In this post, we will see how you can restrict Course based on other Course Completion.

Let’s say that you are teaching Mathematics in your Moodle and you want the students to complete the Number System se before they can dive deep into more difficult topics like Arithmetic etc. So, you can use a Moodle plugin – Restriction by other course completion.

The plugin is developed in a way that you can setup the access to a course only when the students have completed another course. You can download the Restriction by other course completion plugin from the Moodle plugins repository here.

Once installed, you can use this plugin in your courses. You need to configure it in the following manner:

  • Setup the course completion criteria in the Number System course.
  • Then Setup restrict access on the first section of Arithmetic course and put Number System as the completion requirement.

The plugin has a compatible version with Moodle 3.4-4.2 versions. So, you can assume that this plugin is well maintained over past years.

The plugin is doing a wonderful job by allowing you to setup the chain courses (the students need to complete the course in a particular order). What are the other useful Moodle plugins which you are using on your Moodle site. Please share with us in the comments section below.
