How to setup automated course backups for your Moodle LMS?

How to setup automated course backups for your Moodle LMS?
How to setup automated course backups for your Moodle LMS?

With Moodle LMS, educators and institutions can effortlessly create, manage, and deliver dynamic and engaging e-learning experiences. From interactive course content, quizzes, and assignments to robust grading and progress tracking tools, Moodle empowers instructors to customize their virtual classrooms to suit diverse learning needs. But having an online learning portal is of no use if you are not having enough backups of your data.

Moodle LMS offers you many ways to create backup of your student’s precious data records. You can setup server side backup which will do a complete site backup which can be your first resort in case of any disaster. Apart from that you can also have individual course backups for your high priority courses.

You can backup every course manually and keep a copy in your local drive but that may be not a good way to manage your courses. You can also setup automated course backups on your Moodle site which will create backups of all courses individually. However this process might be more server intensive and shall be scheduled only when your students are not supposed to be accessing the system.

How to setup Automated Course Backups in Moodle?

To setup automated course backups on your Moodle site, please follow the following steps:

  • Go to Site administration > Courses > Backups > Automated backup setup.
  • Set Active (backup_auto_active) to enabled.
  • Select the days of the week to run the backup.
  • Set the execution time for the backup process.
  • Define the Path to save the backups.
  • Choose the automated backup settings and click Save Changes.

After setting up the automated backups, you can check out the reports of last execution log by going to Site administration > Reports > Backups. The report will show the list of all course backups made, the time taken to create them, their status, and the next scheduled automated backup execution time. The Backup status column can have the following status:

  • OK – The course backup was successfully completed.
  • Skipped – The course was skipped (not backed up) because the course was unavailable to students
  • Unfinished – The backup was not finished.
  • Error – There were errors in the backup process for the course.

We recommend to have a complete site backup as your preferred way but you can also use the Automated Course Backups in case you have less courses on a better server.

AI-Powered Recruitment Platform RecruitBot Raises $8.2M in Additional Seed Funding

AI-Powered Recruitment Platform RecruitBot Raises $8.2M in Additional Seed Funding
AI-Powered Recruitment Platform RecruitBot Raises $8.2M in Additional Seed Funding

RecruitBot, a San Francisco-based powerful hiring platform that transforms the entire recruiting experience, has recently raised $8.2 million in additional seed funding led by Slow Ventures. The investment round also saw participation from SNR, OCA, Freestyle and Parade. With the funds, the company plans to expand its operations and business reach.

An end-to-end sourcing solution, RecruitBot replaces three tools with a single product: a database of candidates, an outreach tool, and a recruiting CRM, all bundled in an intuitive interface. With advanced power filters, including those to help support DEI initiatives, combined with machine learning algorithms, the firm serves up candidates best suited for a role within minutes, not weeks. A CRM for personalized, automated email outreach sequences ensures much higher candidate engagement.

Founded by Jeremy Schiff, RecruitBot aims to empower recruiters by improving talent sourcing and expediting the hiring process through artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Its advanced AI algorithms enable the platform to comprehend recruiter preferences and display increasingly relevant candidates from its qualified database of 600 million profiles. In addition, the startup facilitates personalized, automated email campaigns to candidates on behalf of hiring managers.

Sharing about the company, Founder & CEO of RecruitBot, Jeremy Schiff, said:

From the great resignation to significant layoffs, the market has now moved towards finding the best candidates, rather than just filling roles as quickly as possible. RecruitBot’s unique combination of machine learning and big data understands what your ideal candidates look like and then maximizes response rates by sending automated drip campaigns to a candidate’s inbox. In today’s economic climate, sourcing and hiring top-quality talent has never been more critical to give companies the competitive edge necessary to survive the harsh economic environment.

Knowing where to find the right candidates and how to approach them best remains a critical challenge for many companies; RecruitBot incorporates sourcing and outreach at scale with analytics in an all-in-one top-of-the-funnel solution to address these pain points. Machine learning allows companies to customize their candidate search by skills, experience and other criteria. By better understanding hiring preferences, companies can easily engage with the candidates at scale. As a result, companies find the right candidates up to 5 times faster with the platform.

Sam Lessin, General Partner, Slow Ventures, added:

RecruitBot’s technology streamlines and optimizes talent acquisition, enabling companies to make data-driven decisions, enhance efficiency, and ultimately build stronger, more diverse teams. By harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, RecruitBot is disrupting the traditional hiring landscape and ushering in a new era of intelligent, inclusive, and impactful workforce development.

Moodle Teachers - Use the Gapfill Question plugin to create Fill in the Blanks question easily

As e-learning continues to evolve, educators seek innovative ways to create interactive and engaging assessments that effectively measure students’ understanding and knowledge retention. Moodle, a leading learning management system, offers a wide array of plugins to enhance the online learning experience. Among these valuable additions, the Gapfill Moodle Question Type Plugin stands out as one of the most popular question type plugin.

Cloze questions are a popular type of assessment question that can be used to test students’ knowledge of a particular topic. They are typically created by removing words from a text and then asking students to fill in the blanks. The Gapfill Moodle Question type plugin makes it easy to create cloze questions in Moodle

The Gapfill question type Moodle plugin can be used to create drag drop, dropdowns or gapfill questions. The syntax is pretty simple as you have to add the square braces around the missing words. You can then define how the missing words will be displayed. You can also specify the number of gaps in the question and the length of the answers.

The Gapfill Moodle Question Type Plugin is available for download from the official Moodle plugins directory (https://moodle.org/plugins/qtype_gapfill). Before installation, ensure that you are using a compatible version of Moodle.

Gapfill Question type Benefits

The Gapfill plugin offers a number of benefits over traditional cloze questions.

  •  The plugin makes it easy to create cloze questions with multiple gaps. This can help to make the questions more challenging and engaging for students.
  • The plugin allows you to customize the appearance of the cloze questions. This can help to make the questions more visually appealing and easier to read.
  • The plugin is compatible with mobile devices. This means that students can take cloze quizzes on their smartphones and tablets.

The plugin also comes with a lot of example questions which can be downloaded from this link. There is an extensive use case scenarios listed for the Gapfill plugin here.
