Moodle Teachers – Show One Quiz Question on Same Page in Moodle Quiz

Moodle Teachers - Show One Quiz Question on Same Page in Moodle Quiz

Moodle LMS offers one of the most robust and customizable quiz setup for online examination. The Moodle quiz includes a wide variety of question types, question bank and other customizable features which allows you to create online exams for all industries.

While attempting the Moodle Quiz, the students need to refresh every time when there is a new page in Moodle Quiz. In this post we will see how you can load only one page and then render questions one by one.

The Moodle plugin – Quiz One Page Paginate is developed to cater this requirement. It allows you to deliver Moodle quiz questions questions one (or more) at a time on the same page without navigating to a new page for each question.

You can download the Quiz One Page Paginate Moodle block from the official Plugins repository here.

  • Once installed you need to navigate to the quiz which you want to show on one single page.
  • Turn the editing Mode on and click add a block on quiz page & choose ‘One Page Paginate’.
  • Once the block is enabled on a quiz, you will see Previous and Next buttons at the bottom, and by default only one quiz question shows at a time.

Kindly note that the plugin loads all questions on page load but they are just hidden from the user.

Overall, the plugin seems to be doing its job pretty effectively. During our testing with Moodle 4.1 the plugin works out like a charm. However, the only challenge what we observed with the default Boost theme is that the Previous/Next buttons are not disabled when it is showing the first & last questions.

Toronto-Based Tech Spark AI Raises $1.4M to Develop Generative AI Platform for Students

Tech Spark AI, a Toronto-based artificial intelligence company, recently announced a $1.4 million pre-seed round led by TD Bank, with participation from Salesforce, Canada’s government and NBA Canada. With this round of funding, the startup intends to expand its new generative AI platform, Spark Plug, for students and a wider audience.

The product’s first iteration allows users to translate classic literature texts into modern language, with Gen Z as the target audience. Founded in 2015 by Tamar Huggins, Tech Spark AI is Canada’s first tech and design school dedicated to empowering children of colour, girls, women, and educators through innovative education. It focuses on developing, revising, and teaching inquiry-based, student-centred K-12 curricula through technology, entrepreneurship, and equity lenses. Its educators and technical mentors are industry professionals representing the students and communities it serves.

Spark Plug has partnered with educational institutions in the United States and Canada, focusing on schools in underserved Black and brown communities. According to founder Tamar Huggins, the platform has developed an assessment tool called LearningDNA to help educators understand how students learn best.

Spark Plug is a generative AI model designed and trained to transform classic literature into culturally responsive language appealing to a Gen Z audience. It uses ethical data and youth culture to improve learning by increasing engagement, content retention, and rigour. Its model fosters an inclusive learning environment by bridging cultural gaps without stereotypes and biases, making learning more relatable and engaging.

Huggins claims Spark Plug’s language model was trained by her daughter, a member of Generation Z, as well as Harlem Renaissance authors and Civil Rights Movement activists. Despite its student focus, the product is available to everyone as a web application that functions similarly to ChatGPT. The goal is to establish itself as a pioneer in inclusive generative AI.

Moodle Teachers - How to add Telegram as Course Communication Tool for students

Telegram is one of the most popular cross platform instant messaging service. Moodle LMS has recently added the possibility to add external chat rooms in Moodle course to let students communicate easily with teachers. In this post we will see how you can add Telegram as your course communication tool.

In Moodle 4.3, a new feature is introduced to add external communication providers. As an Admin, you can easily setup your Matrix rooms or else you can offer external links like Telegram or WhatsApp.

Now let’s see how you can add a Telegram room in your Moodle course to let students communicate easily with the teachers. The configuration needs to be first setup as the admin and then the teachers can add their own preferred custom link in course.

As a site administrator, you need to follow the below steps:

  • Go to Site administration > Development > Experimental > Experimental settings and check communication providers (enablecommunicationsubsystem).
  • Now go to Site administration > Plugins > Communication (New section appeared after enabling it in step above). On this page you can manage your communication providers.
  • You can enable/disable the option for teachers to add Custom Links in their courses. You can also setup Matrix server here.
  • You can change the communication provider for all new courses through Site administration > Courses > Default settings > Course default settings.

Now you need to go to any course where you want to add your Telegram room. You need to follow the steps:

  • Navigate to Course navigation > More > Communication.
  • If you have setup the Matrix server as Admin above, you will see the option to add Matrix room. Otherwise you will see the option to add Custom Link.
  • Here you can give the Name of your chat room and then add the link in the given field.
  • Once saved the room will be available from a ‘sticky’ icon, present on all pages at the bottom of the screen above the information icon.

Bengaluru's Teacher Accreditation Platform CENTA Raises $1M to Enhance Its Tech Capabilities

CENTA (Centre for Teacher Accreditation), a Bengaluru-based teacher accreditation platform, recently announced a funding round of $1 million (Rs 8.3 crore) from several angel investors. The startup intends to use the funds raised to launch a Teaching as a Service (TaaS) offering. The proceeds will also be used to improve the technological capabilities of its existing platform.

Founded by Ramya Venkataraman, CENTA makes teaching an aspirational profession by assessing and certifying teachers’ competencies, connecting them to career opportunities, rewards and recognition, and supporting their professional development journey through the MyCENTA platform. The firm also assists schools and systems in attracting, developing, growing, and retaining excellent teachers.

Speaking about the platform, Ramya Venkataraman, Founder and CEO of CENTA, stated:

Testing and training currently contribute nearly 45% each, while recruiting contributes the remaining 10%, with the hope that recruiting will eventually contribute 40%. While emphasizing teaching as a top priority for everyone. The platform aimed to include representation from various industries in this funding round.

This funding represents a vote of confidence in our mission and underscores the power of teachers as both catalysts of social impact and engines of economic growth.

CENTA claims to have a presence in 7,000 locations across the country and to be improving the lives of over 1.5 million teachers. It works with several state governments and educational boards, including NCERT, CBSE, and State Education Boards, to empower teachers in government schools and improve overall academic quality.

Prem Kumar, former MD of HCL Infosystems, commented on the development, addressing CENTA’s growth as a natural outcome of a well-thought-out strategy that catered to the unmet requirements of the target audience.

Moodle Teachers – How to print students quiz attempts easily for compliance

Moodle Teachers - How to print students quiz attempts easily for compliance
Moodle Teachers - How to print students quiz attempts easily for compliance

Moodle LMS is world’s most popular open source learning management system (LMS) in the world with more than 400 million users around the world. It is used for different learning requirements from corporate companies, medical institute, school & universities etc. In this post we will look at compliance requirement of students response to quiz questions in hard copy.

In many countries or institutions it is required to have a hard copy of students response for compliance purposes. Moodle LMS saves all the students response in the quiz attempts summary and can be served as the records. There are some manual ways to do that but it will take a lot of time for the teachers to print the attempts one by one.

The Quiz Archive report Moodle plugin can be used to print all student attempts at once. Basically this plugin will print the ‘Review Attempt’ page of Moodle Quiz as PDF which can be printed for compliance records.

You can download the Quiz Archive Report Moodle plugin from the official plugin repository here. After installing the plugin, you can just go to the quiz for which you want to print the student attempts. Under the results tab, you will see a new drop down item as ‘Archive’. On the Archive page, you can choose to include response history table & include correct answer.
