Moodle HQ team is constantly working to improve the world’s most popular open source LMS with new features and improving existing features. Over last few released, the Moodle HQ team has focused more on improving the user experience for teachers, students & administrators.

Recently, the Moodle HQ team has revealed about the new course hierarchy which they are working on to improve the overall user experience in Moodle LMS. Over last so many years, Moodle users have complaint about the ‘Scroll of Death’ in their Moodle courses because of the addition of numerous sections & activities on the course home page.

Moodle HQ team is working on improving the course view in such a way that when a user displays a course section (by clicking the section name), then it will show only the activities contained in the section which will give an improved user experience for the students.

Check out the video below where Sara Arjona explains how the new section based course hierarchy view will make it easier for the students to view the course activities.

Leemons Raises $1.63M to Expand Its SaaS Platform for Data-Driven Learning

Leemons Raises $1.63M to Expand Its SaaS Platform for Data-Driven Learning

Leemons, a SaaS platform for data-driven learning, has recently raised $1.63 million (€1.5 million) in a funding round led by Swanlaab Venture Factory, Ship2b Ventures, Mexico’s Stella Maris Partners, business angels, and some previous investors, reaffirming their support for the startup that develops the LXP platform for universities, businesses, and schools.

This new investment aims to consolidate the SaaS platform, implement a go-to-market strategy, and hire key business development personnel. Leemons, co-founded by Lula de LeĂ³n and Johan Sosa in 2021, originated to provide a global platform to schools hoping to digitize the learning experience and begin working with an advanced data model that allows instructors, students, and management to make evidence-based decisions. The Madrid-based company has been operating under a stealth approach to achieve rapid development while serving a rather saturated industry.

The platform caters to the unique needs of each educational development. Using creative teaching methods like flipped classrooms, project-based learning, and design thinking, it easily integrates with existing systems such as Teams, Classroom, Zoom, Drive, and YouTube.

Speaking about the company, Co-founder of Leemons, Lula de LeĂ³n, said:

We sat at the top table with some of the most relevant VCs in Spain and Mexico; they saw the potential of Leemons to disrupt the sector and seize the moment.

In 2021, we launched the product in open source, and it has more than 14,000 downloads, of which approximately 10% have an active installation and are up and running.

The Leemons platform enables the digitization of training for universities and vocational training centres that implement online or blended programmes and corporate training in businesses. Without excluding people who work with face-to-face training, the firm emphasized that they are also willing to be a part of the day-to-day classroom in schools and other centres that provide face-to-face training.

Mark Kavelaars, Managing Partner of Swanlaab Venture Factory, stated:

Leemons convinced us from the first day because of their human quality, technical quality and vision. They can be disruptive in a sector that has not evolved much, where technology is not yet a protagonist and where current solutions do not solve the problems of educators, trainers and their students in the learning process in an agile and effective way.

ConveGenius Raises $7 Million for Gen AI Advancement, Plans for International Expansion

Founded in 2013 ConveGenius has announced a fresh funding round raised from UBS Optimus Foundation, Mount Judi Ventures and other existing investors. As stated on January 11, the new funding round amounting to $7 million will be used to expand the company’s reach in international markets. The round is being held when the education technology sector’s financing for the K-12 vertical has been decreasing.

Founded by Bhattacharya and Shashank Pandey, ConveGenius has established three business verticals. They offer SwiftChat – a conversational AI bot store; Swift School, a personalised adaptive learning platform for schools; and Swift Insights, a large-scale assessments and data intelligence platform.

Founder and managing director Jairaj Bhattacharya said:

This funding round marks a crucial step in ConveGenius’ journey. Our team remains steadfast in the pursuit of empowering every learner, starting with India and fostering data-driven governance for transformative change in education. The capital raised will empower us to export another Indian technology to global markets

The company will use the fresh funding to advance the generative AI capabilities of its conversational AI platform SwiftChat, built on AWS (Amazon Web Services), as well as to expand its offerings internationally. The move aligns with startups nationwide experimenting with Generative AI to expand existing offerings or launch newer ones.

Ali Shariff, Partner at Mount Judi Ventures said:

ConveGenius has implemented massive-scale educational solutions serving students, teachers, institutions, and government administrators. It is successfully transforming public education systems, one of the toughest frontiers in the K-12 space. We at Mount Judi Ventures are thrilled to support ConveGenius’s mission to redefine education through AI

ConveGenius’ existing backers, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF), Bace Capital, Heritas Capital, and Gray Matters Capital, also participated in the current funding round. The company also revealed the funding to be a part of an awaited larger round that ConveGenius is working towards without divulging details on the timeline.

Moodle Teachers – How to Enroll Students in Course based on profile field

Moodle Teachers - How to Enroll Students in Course based on profile field

As an open-source learning management system, Moodle has become the world’s most popular LMS for educators and institutions seeking a flexible, interactive, and user-friendly online learning environment. In this post we will discuss how you can enroll the users in Moodle course depending on the values stored in their custom profile field.

The Moodle plugin – Enrol by user profile fields, allows you to enroll the students based on the custom profile fields value. This can make your life easier as a teacher or Moodle administrator by easily enrolling users in Moodle courses.

You need to make sure to create custom profile fields before using this plugin. You can create custom profile fields from Site Administration > Users > User Profile Fields.

Then, you can download the Enrol by User Profile fields plugin from the official plugins repository here. Once installed you can configure the plugin to use the custom profile fields you want to use. You can also configure the enrollment role for the users and the action to be taken once the user is not having the field value in their user profile field.

You need to make sure to enable the enrollment method from Site Admin > Plugins > Enrollment > Manage Enrol plugins. Once you have enabled the enrollment method then you can go to any course and add the enrollment method. You can configure matching conditions if you are using many custom profile fields.

Overall it seems a pretty useful plugin to automate the enrollment process depending on the custom profile fields value stored in their user profile fields.
