IOMAD 4.3 Released with exciting features – Check it out today!

IOMAD – the Moodle LMS based multi-tenant solution has been updated to a new version compatible with Moodle 4.3 version. The new version released recently is packed with a lot of exciting new features.

The IOMAD 4.3 has made some fundamental changes to how users are associated with companies. Let’s have a look at the new features included in the IOMAD 4.3:

  • Allocate users to multiple tenants – You can now assign users to different tenants with logic in place to handle reporting within a tenant when courses are shared. Some tenants may have been set up with a course lifecycle for scheduled re-certification, so (using the new company switcher) users can move between their tenant assignations in order to view a specific tenant’s course information.
  • Per-tenant Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) settings – The MFA tool is now part of Moodle core, and it’s been improved for multi-tenancy. With IOMAD, you have the option to allow for different settings per tenant or apply a blanket default setting for everyone else.
  • Company switcher in Navbar – With users now able to exist in multiple tenants, we needed a new way of allowing them to select which tenant they wanted to work with when they didn’t have access to the standard IOMAD dashboard.
  • Download certificate buttons – All of the completion and user report pages now have a button to allow you to bulk-download all of the user certificates for the course/s. The user also has the same button on their My courses block, which will allow them to download all of their personally achieved certificates.
  • Ability to delete a company – As you can download all of the completion records from reports, meaning you can capture all company information, we’ve added the functionality to delete a company entirely from the system.

You can check out more details about the IOMAD 4.3 version here.

Worried about Accessibility in Moodle? Check out this plugin today!

Accessibility means the inclusive practice of ensuring there are no barriers that prevent interaction to online content by people with disabilities. Moodle LMS has been following the WCAG standard for making the system fully accessible. However, Moodle LMS includes a lot of user generated content which might not comply with the accessibility standard.

In this post we will discuss about one of the new plugins in Moodle plugins repository –  Accessibility. The Accessibility plugin for Moodle allows users to customize the visual appearance of a Moodle to suit individual preferences.

In recent years many Moodle themes included the option to switch between Dark mode or Light Mode (Day or Night mode). But this Accessibility plugin hands the control to the end user how he would like to got through the content.

The end user can choose his own page background color, font, font size and text color on all Moodle pages. There is an option to have more features added in future to allow granular control to end user.

You can download the Accessibility plugin from the official plugins repository here. Once installed, there will be an accessibility icon visible in the lower-right corner of the page. Clicking on the button produces a panel that contains the widgets that are available on the site. The base pack of widgets includes widgets for text colour, background colour, font face and font size. The colour widgets are designed to let the user choose their preferred colours without being restricted to a small selection of palettes.

Overall, I am very happy with the features of the plugin and the ease through which it can help people with disabilities to turn Moodle into a perfect learning platform without any barrier.

What are your views about Accessibility in Moodle LMS? Is your Moodle optimized for Accessibility? Please connect with us to learn more through the comments section below.

Want to use Markdown format in Moodle LMS – Check out this editor plugin

Moodle LMS has moved on from the vintage Atto text editor which will be completely removed from Moodle core in upcoming versions. TinyMCE has been used as the default text editor in Moodle since Moodle 4.2 version. However, if you are a fan of WYTIWYG instead of WYSIWYG then you might have already used the Markdown format somewhere.

The good news is that now you can use Markdown format in Moodle LMS to create content as you type in. Markdown format is pretty popular among online users as it allows you to easily format text based on the syntax. If you are looking to learn Markdown format syntax then you can refer to this guide which is pretty easy to get started.

The Marklar Plugin developed by David Mudrak from Moodle HQ allows you to use Markdown format in Moodle. Markdown is a lightweight markup language with plain text formatting syntax. It allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format that is automatically converted to structurally valid HTML.

Here are some features of Marklar editor:

  • Marklar is WYTIWYG – what you type is what you get.
  • Marklar does not have buttons. Markdown syntax is to be typed manually.
  • Marklar is not extensible via sub-plugins.
  • Marklar sets markdown as the preferred format for new texts.
  • Marklar can be also used for editing texts in other formats. Supported formats can be customised via user preferences.
  • Marklar is not used for editing HTML texts by default. Another editor such like Atto or TinyMCE is loaded to do that.
  • Marklar supports images and files embedding via filepicker.
  • Marklar supports server-side generated preview.
  • Marklar supports uploading images from clipboard.
  • Marklar will support drafts auto-saving.

You can download the Marklar Editor plugin from the official plugins repository here.
