    Reporting to the Director of Digital Learning, the Digital Learning Instructional Designer and Technologist provides support and professional development for all courses utilizing the learning management system with an emphasis on online/hybrid courses. This position will help the Casper College Digital Learning Center fulfill its mission to be a student-centered department that works to achieve student success by integrating technology with education. This individual will work as an integral leader of a collaborative team responsible for assessing, designing, developing, and evaluating online, hybrid, and/or traditional courses and learning experiences.

    Responsibilities:

    The position of Digital Learning Instructional Designer and Technologist (IDT) works closely with the Director and is responsible for all college online/hybrid programs and courses utilizing the learning management system (LMS). These responsibilities include providing technical support, training assistance, and direction for all online/hybrid programs and other various tasks that revolve around the creation, implementation, and support of online/hybrid programs and courses. This position assists in creating an honest/trustworthy environment to ensure faculty teaching in online/hybrid and traditional course room settings receive the necessary level of technical and pedagogical support. This position has some direct supervisory responsibilities. This position prepares training appropriate for instructors’ level of expertise and comfort. The IDT helps create documentation and resources to support learning environments for faculty and students. The position of IDT continues professional development and training in collaboration with the Digital Learning committees. The position also collaborates with the appropriate departments to help determine technological needs on campus and designs solutions to meet the requirements of students and instructors in the use of new educational and instructional technologies. This position also works in close collaboration with academic school leaders to assist in the development and promotion of online programs and classes.

    Essential Duties:

    • Implements and maintains quality standards and universal design principles in online/hybrid programs and courses.
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders to design and redesign individual classes
    • Recommends and mentors instructors to design or redesign courses, including technology or research-proven instructional methods.
    • Designs and implements a best practice instructor curriculum based on institutional goals leading to an instructor Certification, and class templates.
    • Designs and teaches a self-paced course for onboarding faculty in the use of the LMS aligned with the institutional best practice guidelines.
    • Design and redesign courses for online presentations that are conducive to distance learning programs and the academic goals of the institution.
    • Provide technical support for in-person and distance users of digital educational products through email, phone, face-to-face, virtual meetings, and IM Chat.
    • Administration of the LMS.
    • Use multimedia technology and authoring tools to create high-level (virtual) instructor-led and eLearning training programs.
    • Create instructional material: courses, curriculum, student/faculty guides, training manuals, and videos.
    • Collaborate closely with the DLC Director, DLC Specialist, Instructional Technology Committee members, and various departments including but not limited to the Information Technology Department.
    • Maintains active involvement with appropriate organizations and committees pertaining to distance education communities.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Work Environment:

    A typical work environment is a classroom and office setting requiring normal safety precautions. Work is usually performed during the normal workday, however, occasional early morning, late evening, and weekend work may be required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors traveling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. This position frequently works around audio/visual equipment. Noise levels are usually minimal.

    Physical Demands:

    An employee is regularly required to sit, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use a computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee will occasionally stoop, kneel, and crouch. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required. Specific vision requirements are close-up and the ability to adjust focus.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Technology, or similar, with a minimum of three (3) years work experience in instructional design, teaching, or training; OR Associate’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Technology, or similar, with a minimum of five (5) years work experience in instructional design, teaching, or training.
    • Understanding of current pedagogical practices related to online/hybrid course design.
    • Project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks/projects.
    • Demonstrated an understanding of effective uses of technology in education.
    • Demonstrated commitment to quality and innovation.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Universal Design, or similar.
    • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Moodle, Canvas, etc.
    • Work experience in the Higher Education environment.
    • Demonstrated an understanding of Quality Matters.
    • Proven high level of competency in Learning Management Systems operation.
    • Experience with learning and content systems and platforms including Articulate, Storyline, Rise, Screen-Pall, Camtasia, and LearnDash preferred.
