Under the direction of the Associate Director, Organizational Talent & Development, the Sr. Learning Experience Designer (LXD) creates innovative and engaging online courses by employing current online teaching and learning methodologies. This position works with subject matter experts to design and develop courses for professional development purposes. The LXD provides guidance on aligning competencies, assessments, and learning objects to optimize the learning experience. The Learning Experience Designer works in collaboration with team members to oversee project management processes and resources, project documents and other related materials.
Essential Functions:
  • Conduct needs assessment and initial analysis as part of their collaboration with NU Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
  • Ensure alignment of curriculum to assessment and online content.
  • Employ learning best practices into the development of online content.
  • Assist in authoring original content and modifying existing materials in coordination with SMEs.
  • Incorporate digital media into the e-learning platform. Maintain and update course related content.
  • Consult in designing effective assessments and evaluation methods.
  • Integrate credential and badging opportunities associated with national trends and workforce standards.
  • Design and provide recommendations for custom multimedia activities and other engaging course elements.
  • Develop and consult on appropriate assessment strategies.
  • Conduct training and coaching on best practices for online course design.
  • Evaluate course materials to ensure that online course curriculum is consistent with requirements as specified by SMEs.
  • Make design decisions and create original content.
  • Design and develop effective custom multimedia content.
  • May act as lead on course development or multimedia projects.
  • Design and build courses by:
  • Evaluating course materials to ensure that online course curriculum is consistent with requirements as specified by SMEs.
  • Planning, conceptualizing, and organizing multimedia and design projects.
  • Assisting with design decisions and creation of original content.
  • Designing and developing effective custom multimedia content.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to provide consulting on online Learning and instructional design best practices.
  • Write and align competencies at the micro- to macro-level, create formative assessments, aligned learning objects, and adaptive instructional strategies
  • Assist in developing and maintaining online teaching and learning standards/frameworks for institutional course development.

Requirements:
Education & Experience:
  • A portfolio of two or more (2+) instructional design projects demonstrating the end products AND an explanation of your design process for each. This is a non- negotiable requirement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in eLearning design and development.
  • Five (5) years of experience developing courses in a corporate, educational, or freelance environment or commensurate experience in instruction, curriculum development, research and assessment, training, or online pedagogy.
  • Five (5) years of experience with eLearning development tools, such as:
  • Articulate (Storyline, Rise 360), Adobe Creative Cloud, Elucidat, TechSmith (Camtasia, Snagit), etc.
Competencies/Technical/Functional Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to stay up to date on new software tools and trends in instructional design.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of a Learning Management System(s).
  • Strong interpersonal and counseling skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of personnel.
  • Ability to conduct research through a variety of methods.
  • Knowledge and experience working in adult education in the academic and training environment.
  • Demonstrated training in content development, curriculum development, training development.
  • Strong knowledge of Internet terms, technologies, and protocols.
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail and follow-through, as well as the ability to organize a multitude of tasks under time constraints.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities including interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures, while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects, deadlines and frequently changing priorities.
  • Ability to drive towards achieving measurable and challenging goals to support organizational success.
