    Provides pedagogical consultation, guidance and support to faculty via the Center for Learning Excellence (CLE). Manages campus-based instructional design projects that support student success. Provides assistance to faculty in the pedagogical understanding of effective instructional methods and supports institutional efforts for increasing quality course design for all delivery modes. Collaborates with faculty to support course and curriculum design initiatives to enhance and expand learning in a range of delivery modalities. Designs and conducts professional development and training opportunities for faculty. Manages the daily operations for the Center for Learning Excellence, and supervises the Instructional Technologist and Instructional Support Specialist positions.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

     

    • Serves as an instructional design subject matter expert and provides pedagogical consultation, guidance, and support within related work.
    • Manages Instructional Technologist and Information Support Specialist positions at the campus.
    • Facilitates and creates a collaborative, supportive, and empowered working environment for the Instructional Technologist and Instructional Support Specialist positions.
    • Applies relevant instructional design models to the design and development of online, blended, web-enhanced, and traditional learning environments
    • Provides consultation to faculty in the Center for Learning Excellence to support the design and development of quality course materials, learning objects, and courses for various modalities
    • Partners with the Assistant Dean to establish Center for Learning Excellence goals and priorities
    • Serves as a resource and provides guidance to faculty in the development/revision of outcomes-based curriculum and assessments
    • Collaborates with campus Adjunct Services to support adjunct faculty development and engagement
    • Manages campus-based instructional design projects that support student success
    • Designs and conducts workshops in multiple modalities for faculty related to effective technical and traditional teaching strategies that support and promote quality course design
    • Continuously explores new course design strategies and contemporary learning models
    • Conducts needs assessment and usability analyses and develops metrics to evaluate design impact and success
    • Collects and analyzes data related to the Center for Learning Excellence
    • Conducts outreach to faculty and stakeholders to increase engagement with the Center for Learning Excellence
    • Provides consultation in collaboration with Instructional Technologist and Instructional Support Specialist to individuals and small groups on assigned campus related to instructional design, course design, and other projects
    • Collaborates with counterparts, college-wide Center for Learning Excellence staff, OLAT, FDEV and other relevant stakeholders on college-wide development initiatives and projects.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

     


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

     

    • Master’s Degree
      • Significant related experience may substitute for education
    • Minimum of four years of experience designing and developing of instructional experiences
    • Demonstrated experience working with Blackboard or other course management systems (i.e. Moodle, Desire to Learn, and Sakai)
    • Demonstrated experience facilitating online or face-to-face workshops
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

     

    • Possess comprehensive knowledge of instructional design theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
    • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of learning theory, instructional technology, and adult learning theory
    • Demonstrated ability to develop effective instruction for several different pedagogical orientations
    • Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

     

    • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Instructional Systems, Distance Learning, eLearning, Adult Learning and Development, or related field
    • Demonstrated experience working with curriculum and assessment. Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department
    • Prior teaching experience in the college or university environment
    • Demonstrated experience creating successful online courses
    • Demonstrated experience managing direct reports and/or projects
    • Proven experience supporting faculty in the design and development of technology-enabled courses in a higher education environment
    • Demonstrated experience applying the Quality Matters rubric and Standards to online and blended design
    • Demonstrated experience developing and managing course design/development budget, including the oversight and management of either outsourced resources or in-house personnel
    • Demonstrated experience with web meeting software, screen capture software, audio record software, and/or other synchronous and asynchronous online learning development tools
    • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering synchronous online instruction
    • Demonstrated experience with new models of instruction
    • Demonstrated experience with Blackboard
    • Demonstrated experience working in a virtual environment or multi-campus environment
    • Demonstrated experience with Open Educational Resources, both content-based and technology-based
    • Proven experience working with faculty on course design and development for distance learning programs/courses in a higher education environment
    • Proven experience managing successful projects using external vendors or consultants
