Nazareth seeks a talented, energetic, innovative, and technically-capable person who is passionate about working with faculty to create highly engaging and effective learning experiences that model what online and blended education can be. The Learning Experience Designer reports to the Director of Teaching and Learning Technologies within Academic Affairs and works closely with the Expansive Naz leadership team. Among the responsibilities of this position are:
- to work closely with faculty subject matter experts teaching and developing online and hybrid course formats, including non-credit bearing certificate courses;
- to design courses and/or specific course elements that effectively support a very broad audience of learners with widely varying academic preparation, significant time constraints, and demanding learning goals;
- to use the advantages of the online environment to offer course material and support in ways that cannot be done in a brick-and-mortar classroom;
- and to develop an engaging community of learners, building connections to Nazareth and each other through the Expansive Naz strategic initiative.
Essential Functions
- Course Design & Development: Collaborate with Nazareth faculty subject matter experts in the design and development of engaging learning experiences through all stages of the instructional design and development process. This requires working with faculty and other course team members on the application of instructional design principles in the development of multimedia components, exemplary learning objects, digitally rich media, comprehensive modules, and learning assessments that support active learning in online and hybrid courses. Must be well-versed in using multiple learning management systems (Canvas preferred) and multimedia editing tools to create online learning modules and courses for a variety of learners. | 55%
- Project Management: Effectively facilitates cross-functional teams to develop multiple course-related learning objects within set project timelines. With faculty and key staff, collaboratively develops project charters, manages course content collection, and creates and quality-assures course development within set deadlines. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects to completion. | 20%
- Quality Assurance: Supports the quality of online course design and delivery through the routine evaluation of online courses offered regularly at Nazareth. Ensures that courses meet ADA and WCAG standards for accessibility. Creates effective evaluations and uses data to facilitate constructive conversations with faculty, the Director of Teaching & Learning Technologies and Expansive Naz leadership regarding future iterations of the course. | 10%
- Professional Development: Maintains currency with campus initiatives, trends, research and best practices in technology, online & higher education, adult learning theory, and instructional design theory. Research and make recommendations on educational best practices, instructional resources and multimedia hardware/software to support online instruction. | 10%

Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least one year of relevant experience implementing teaching technologies to complete instructional design work in higher education.
- Demonstrated experience incorporating instructional design principles and pedagogical best practices in course design. Evidence of experience in the design, development, and delivery of online or hybrid courses for a variety of learners.
- Knowledge of ADA and WCAG accessibility standards in relation to online course design.
- Strong technical skills/fluency, with demonstrated experience managing a learning management system (Canvas preferred) and multimedia editing tools.
- Strong project management skills with multiple examples of projects managed from start to conclusion.
- Ability to successfully collaborate with and manage cross-functional interpersonal working relationships with an audience of varying technological skill levels to achieve the established program goals.
- Demonstrated experience assisting educators to intentionally incorporate instructional technologies into online curriculum, including creating and facilitating professional development for faculty audiences.
- Demonstrated experience designing interactive learning objects using eLearning authoring tools a plus (e.g. Adobe Captivate, Rise etc) but not required.
- Ability to master new teaching technology applications quickly and independently.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; engaging writing style and excellent editorial skills.
- Ability to manage ambiguous projects, creatively problem-solve, and escalate as appropriate.
- Ability to handle confidential information sensitively and appropriately.
- Demonstrates commitment to working in a diverse workplace and to building a pluralistic community by promoting an increased understanding of individual differences and perspectives.

Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills
- Master’s degree or additional credentials in Instructional Design, Education, or related field preferred.
- Two or more years’ of relevant experience with increasing responsibility.
