Delta Air Lines is looking for a passionate and skilled Learning Designer II to collaborate with members of the Flight Operations Pilot Learning and Development (PLaD) team to enhance the pilot learning and development journey. The Learning Designer II position is an individual contributor joining an established and nurturing learning team responsible for managing pilot learning interventions that start at concept proposal and follow through to completion using sound Instructional System Design (ISD) processes.
Close coordination with the training compliance team ensures that government and corporate requirements are met. This role is responsible for adhering to the group’s schedule for the complete content development lifecycle using predictable, repeatable processes. This position contributes to production standards for all digital content.
The Learning Designer II is involved in a multitude of eLearning interventions for pilot learning and development. A rapid understanding of developer tools, digital asset management, content distribution methods, and electronic testing systems will be required.
These responsibilities require up-to-date knowledge of training technology and interactive learning tools, processes, and best practices.
The scope of eLearning content includes, and is not limited to:
  • Quarterly eLearning releases
  • Aircraft systems eLearning programs
  • Fleet-specific preflight inspections
  • A test bank of over 8,000 questions and supporting graphics
  • FAA, TSA, and corporate compliance training subjects
Successful development and design of training content and technology requires close collaboration with divisional stakeholders. Coordination with business units outside of Flight Operations is also essential to delivering accurate eLearning effectively and efficiently. External interactions can also include vendors, contractors, auditors, labor organizations, and regulators.
Summary of Responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks):
  • Responsible for the development of highly engaging and interactive learning solutions using industry standard eLearning software.
  • Apply advanced adult learning theories into practical, application-based learning design and development with the ability to convert strategies to effective and engaging learning experiences.
  • Possess the ability to work in a team environment to design, develop, and build blended learning experiences.
  • Acquire and apply new technology skills to instructional design practice.
  • Build productive relationships and collaborate effectively with subject matter experts and other team members, delivering a consistent learning experience.
  • Effectively prioritize and execute project work to completion, meeting targeted milestones.
  • Develop comprehensive measurement strategies for all learning solutions to demonstrate business impact and effectiveness

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Minimum of two years of work experience as a learning designer, multimedia developer, technical writer, or eLearning program manager (or relevant, comparable experience)
  • Experience working in an agile (SAM) and waterfall (ADDIE) design environment
  • Design learning that reflects an understanding of the diversity of learners, including the demonstrated understanding of cultural differences that may apply
  • The ability to apply concepts, techniques, and theories of other disciplines to instructional design assessment strategies
  • Must possess excellent verbal communication skills, including writing and editing
  • Practical knowledge of learning development tools such as Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Lectora, or LCMS
  • Practical experience using Instructional Systems Design (ISD) methodologies
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Able to handle day-to-day work challenges confidently, demonstrating flexibility, strong collaboration skills, and change management
  • Intermediate or advanced skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Experience developing technology-based training or performance solutions
  • Practical experience developing content for technical training subjects
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently to meet project schedules
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles
  • Consistently makes safety and security, of self and others, the priority
  • Experience with compliance training
  • Graphic design and visual communication skills
  • Understanding of Learning Management Systems (LMS), Content Management Systems (CMS), and Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS)
  • Practical knowledge of technologies and standards such as HTML5, JavaScript, CSS,
  • XML, and SCORM
  • Proficiency required in a broad range of digital multimedia applications and technologies
  • Experience with Smartsheet, MS Visio, MS Project, and Adobe Acrobat
  • (If transferring internally) Must be performing satisfactorily in present position.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Experience designing, developing and delivering emerging learning solutions including game-based learning, video, micro-learning, simulations and immersive scenarios requiring multiple branching elements
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Digital Multimedia Production, Adult Learning, Training Technology, Workplace Learning/Performance, technical writing, or equivalent work experience
  • Industry Professional Certifications such as
    • Adobe Certified Expert (ACE)
    • SAP – Certified Application Associate/Professional (SuccessFactors)
    • Association of Talent Development (ATD) Certified Professional in Learning Development (CPLP)/Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD)
    • Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Strong project management background
  • Experience creating aviation-related content
  • Technical writing and/or corporate communications experience
