    The UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies (DCS) is hiring an entry-level instructional technologist to help our Learning Engineering Group (LEG) design and develop online noncredit courses for divisional and campus partners. We are looking for someone who can bring some basic learning management system development skills with the ability and eagerness to learn more advanced skills. We support a culture of professional development and mentorship so engagement in continuous education opportunities and a growth mindset are encouraged. Attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and excellent time management skills are a must.

    The incumbent will work with Instructional Designers to develop courses in Canvas and edX learning management systems (LMS). They will be responsible for building courses using content from subject matter experts and utilizing the HTML and CSS within the LMS and templates provided by LEG. They will ensure quality and accessibility standards are met and that the content is presented in ways that support learner-centered practices and universal design. The new employee will be given increasing responsibilities and continued professional development opportunities to grow their skills to help advance their career within our team and beyond.

    Responsibilities:

    Assists with or supports the design, development, and enhancement of instructional activities, programs, and curricula. Utilizes effective educational methodologies and technologies to meet organizational and learner needs.

    • 40% Assists with the design and development of engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, blended, and/or online
    • 10% Completes initial edits, reviews, and updates of existing instructional materials
    • 10% Contributes to researching, designing, and/or acquiring learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning
    • 30% Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and provides feedback regarding learning technologies
    • 10% Assists with the design and development of multimedia learning materials

    Education:

    H.S. Diploma is required.

    Some higher education and/or technical training in instructional design, education, instructional technology, training and development, career and technical education, or related field is preferred.

    Qualifications:

    Required Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience using basic HTML in content/learning management systems like WordPress, Canvas, D2L Brightspace, Moodle, or edX.
    • Experience using core computer programs, such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and a demonstrated interest in learning new technologies and software.
    • Experience working independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience using eLearning development software (examples are, but not limited to, Articulate 360 or Adobe Captivate) to develop online courses and learning content guided by instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, etc.) and adult learning theories (e.g., Knowles, Kolb, Dewey, Kirkpatrick, etc.)
    • Experience working collaboratively with other instructional designers

    Work Type:

    Full Time: 100%

    Full-time remote work aligned with our Central time zone schedule is welcome, as is hybrid or full-time on-campus work if you prefer.

    Minimum $46,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
