The Digital Learning Technologist works as a member of the Academic Computing team in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at Claremont Graduate University (CGU) in support of the teaching, learning, and research activities of CGU faculty, students and staff by providing instructional technology support services along with other members of OIT. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with experience in supporting teaching and learning at the higher education level, including online education. The candidate will have facility working with faculty, students and staff with existing instructional technologies and an ability to learn about and adapt to newer technologies quickly to adopt into the teaching and learning activities of the university.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Works with Academic Computing team and lab/classroom student staff in collaboration with other IT team members on a variety of technical and administrative duties for the Academic Computing group and the IT department.
- In coordination with the Director of Educational Technology, provides support for faculty on instructional technology and Audio-Visual systems in classrooms, digital media for online delivery and other learning technologies, particularly integrated with the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)
- In coordination with the Assistant Director of Instructional Technology, leads a team of student employees and is the liaison with Academic Computing team in the delivery of support and maintenance of Instructional Technology, including evaluation, use, and support of technology enhanced classrooms, OIT-operated computer labs, the learning management system, and other instructionally-related technologies.
- In coordination with the Assistant Director of Digital Learning, conducts quality assurance checks for new courses in development, existing courses in the revision process, and other online or hybrid curriculum throughout the university.
- Represents OIT as Subject Matter Expert on Instructional Technologies, including the Canvas learning management system, Qualtrics, TurnItIn, videoconferencing, Microsoft O365, multimedia production, eLearning authoring tools, and other academic technologies.
- Contributes to new digital asset product or enhancement testing, evaluation, and implementation.
- Assists with term preparation and end-of-term reporting.
- Advocates for adoption of technologies for teaching and learning, working with Faculty and Staff to determine upcoming needs for campus-based and online classes, projects and other academic initiatives, including planning for technology procurement, instructional design support services, and event planning.
- Trains faculty and staff, as Subject Matter Expert, on OIT-supported systems and services such as Windows, Mac, Office, PeopleSoft, Canvas, classroom technologies and email, with ability to learn about new technologies quickly to utilize for instructional purposes in online, in-person, hybrid or concurrent class delivery.
- Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position, and assisting other IT staff members as needed.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Expert knowledge of learning technologies, including learning management systems, assessment software, and classroom technology as well as standard technologies such as desktop software including collaboration, office productivity, presentation and networking tools and services.
- Working knowledge of graphic design, video editing, learning object authoring (using tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, or similar), and website design.
- Excellent knowledge of project management, leadership and collaboration.
- Excellent knowledge of troubleshooting skills consisting of cross platform support for desktops and laptops on both Windows and Macintosh OS.
- Good communication skills.
- Able to work in cross-functional teams.
- Ability to deal calmly with frustrated users.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
1. EDUCATION: Masters’ degree preferred or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability.
2. EXPERIENCE: Five years’ experience.
3. LICENSES / CERTIFICATES: (If Applicable, i.e. driver’s license)
4. OTHER PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to applicants with skills (communication, language, experience, etc.) relevant to needs.
