Job Summary
The Instructional Designer position is responsible for designing and enhancing highly interactive credit and non-credit offerings for internal and external stakeholders to best meet the goals of the campus and University. This position will support program offerings across a variety of modalities including onsite, blended, online and synchronous and asynchronous eLearning delivery as well as workshops, trainings and individual consultation. This position reports to the Senior Instructional Designer and works directly and collaboratively with program directors, instructional design staff, trainers, instructors, faculty and subject matter experts. Responsibilities include research, planning, design, develop, evaluation and revision of courses, workshops and materials that promote a learner focused culture that emphasizes best practices and effective use of technology including accessibility and inclusive design principles. The Instructional Designer will prioritize and manage multiple projects in various programs of a highly technical nature and is accountable for the delivery of work prescribed deadlines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is based at the Harrisburg Campus and is part of the University College. The University College is responsible for the operations of the Ambler, Center City and Harrisburg campuses as well as offering programs and activities across multiple Temple campuses and locations. Campus operations require a continuous/consistent professional staff presence during all hours of operation. This position can be offered as a hybrid opportunity depending on location.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related field. At least three (3) years experience in course design and development, multimedia, or e-learning development. Experience with graphic and multimedia authoring software and website design software. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience building content in an LMS (Canvas or other leading LMS platforms).
- Comprehensive knowledge of instructional theories and principles applicable to both online and instructor-led programs.
- Strong writing skills.
- Knowledge of ADA requirements in online course delivery
- Familiarity with copyright and intellectual property standards for course development
- Proficient communication skills – written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and facilitation.
- Demonstrated experience in multimedia software including Articulate, Captivate or Camtasia.
- Detail orientated development, testing and maintenance of functionality of training and courses, including associated materials, for high quality assurance.
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Demonstrated real-time web conferencing expertise, (Teams or Zoom preferred).
- Ability to handle multiple and simultaneous tasks.
- Self-starter with ability to prioritize, schedule and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly.
- Proven ability to creatively solve problems.
- A genuine desire to help internal external customers.
- A track record for going the extra mile to make sure tasks are done efficiently and completely.
- Demonstrated experience in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, video and audio editing software, and basic html.
- Ability to research and develop technological applications and skills to stay current and innovative in multiple learning platforms.
- Experience with latest technology for office communications, web-search activity, networking and file storage and management.
- Ability to troubleshoot software and functional difficulties.
- Ability to gather and analyze data from various sources, identify issues and trends and assist in development of plans accordingly.
- Ability to work independently and identify potentially more effective methods of work operation.
- Travel required (10-15%) primarily for event support and course effectiveness evaluation.
Preferred:
- Experience in a higher education environment.
- Master’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, information technology, or related field.
This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
