UniFirst Corporation is currently seeking an Instructional Designer to join the Training & Instructional Design department and report to the UBS Training Program Manager.
The Instructional Designer plans, designs, and implements innovative end-to-end entry, intermediate, and advanced level training courses or learning projects for an engaging learning experience for our employees. They are responsible for overseeing the creative direction and project management associated with the development of online, in person and hybrid courses. Areas of training content can vary from Leadership Development, Safety, Compliance, Human Resources, etc.
The Instructional Designer will also support and work with the subject matter experts designing the courses and the reviewers conducting the review of the courses. S/he will create a template for all courses and, as the project manager, will create the processes and procedures necessary for a smooth design and delivery process. This includes copy-editing, reformatting of current materials when needed, and providing QA and data analysis to ensure consistency across all forms of UBS documentation.
Identifies and plans appropriate instructional content design strategies and objectives, curriculum, learning activities, and assessment materials based on analysis of tasks, learners, and subject matter to engage and educate end users on processes, concepts, products, product features, or other various topics, ensuring the content matches the objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Develops training materials for instructors, such as online course instructional guides, master training documents, and facilitator guides.
- Confers with internal and external subject matter experts to identify and determine needs of the course and appropriate method of delivery based on what the end-users need to learn.
- Assists subject matter experts in translating content knowledge into a course design map leading to the final product of an online, in person or hybrid course.
- Develops and publishes interactive and engaging multimedia course content and microlearning videos, and instructional material for online delivery, including text, graphics, interactive elements, and rich media, using a variety of media and web content applications, audio, and video capture programs.
- Manages course development projects from inception to completion in accordance with instructional design principles.
- Determines, communicates, and manages scope of project, requirements, goals, and timeline.
- Demonstrates and utilizes effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills, as well as knowledge of how people learn and on how to help them learn better.
- Revises, rewrites, and structures content and activities to shape it for learning needs.
- Adapts instructional materials and creates media to support learning, e.g. visual aids for face-to-face and various multimedia for e-learning and online.
- Effectively liaise between the documentation and the UBS training team to align all course materials with Help Topics, Job Aids and Reference guides.
- Provides instructional support to align all UBS training materials, including eLearning courses, Instructor guides, Participant Guides, PowerPoint Presentations, Job Aids and various forms of Reference guides to ensure standards are met.
- Provide analytical and reporting support to Program manager as needed.
- Assist with UBS training deployment coordination/organization as needed.
- Researches and maintains an understanding of teaching methods and tools; pursues and utilizes knowledge of emerging technologies, tools, and trends in education and learning strategies.
Qualifications:
- Excellent project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple course developments simultaneously.
- Experience creating multi-media content – videos, eLearning, and any other digital assets.
- At least 5 years’ experience in instructional design and or multi-media content creation, including designing and developing online courses and creating digital materials from scratch.
- At least 2 years’ experience working in a location or in an industry similar to UniFirst.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Degree or advanced certificate in instructional design or related field desirable.
- Experience in training, including training or performance analysis
