The Instructional Designer works under the direct leadership of the Master of Arts program managers, and in coordination with Faculty Course Developers to create and elocute content for nearly 100 adult students using the classical, Christian ethos and pedagogy of Classical Conversations. The Instructional Designer primarily leads the conversion of the approved syllabus into the digital learning management systems (LMS): 1) Canvas by Instructure and 2) Brightspace. They also maximize the satisfaction of students in the LMS with student training, weekly attention, system fixes, and seasonal improvements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, computer science, or a related field.
- Experience: two to three years of experience in instructional design or a related field. Experience in instructional technology, computer science, and software engineering is also highly valued.
- Knowledge and skills: instructional design principles, learning theories, and adult learning principles. They should also be skilled in software development, multimedia development, and web development. Experience with authoring tools and learning management systems (LMS) is also beneficial.
- Communication skills: excellent communication skills to work with subject matter experts, stakeholders, and team members to develop and deliver effective training materials.
- Creativity: creative in designing innovative and engaging ways to deliver the interests of the faculty and meets the needs of diverse adult learners.
- Attention to detail: must pay attention to detail and ensure that all learning material content is accurate, consistent, and meets the required standards.
- Certifications: helpful but not required: Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), Certified eLearning Specialist (CeLS), or Adobe Certified Expert (ACE).
Essential Functions
- Designing and developing online courses using Canvas LMS.
- Creating course content, such as lesson plans, interactive activities, and assessments.
- Ensuring course content is accessible and usable for all learners.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts and stakeholders to align course content with educational goals.
- Evaluating and updating courses to maintain relevance and effectiveness.
- Providing technical support and training to faculty and staff on using Canvas
