Customize your Moodle Homepage using the Unilabel plugin

-

Moodle LMS is the world’s most popular open source Learning management System which is used by more than 365 million users around the world. It offers endless options to customize the learning environment for any institutions needs. However, many people complain that Moodle’s homepage is not completely customizable. In this post, we will explore the Unilabel plugin which can be used to add customized text on frontpage as well as in courses.

The Unilabel Moodle plugin allows you to include some nice formatted text on the course- or frontpage. It comes with different types of modern text elements which can make your Moodle homepage look nicer.

You can think of the Unilabel plugin as an extended form of the Label Resource in Moodle (Now Label is renamed as Text & Media). By using the Unilabel plugin, you can add the following text elements:

  • Simple text – This content type just show the label as you already know
  • Carousel – In this content type you can define a series of images. Each image is shown as slider.
  • Collapsed text – This content type offers you two options: folded content & modal dialog containing the content.
  • Course teaser – Mainly intended to show on the frontpage it shows the titles and images of selected courses.
  • Topic teaser – Mainly intended to show on the frontpage it shows the description of topics of a selected course.

You can download the Unilabel plugin from the official Moodle plugins repository here. The plugin is very actively maintained over the past few years and received the Early Bird badge since Moodle 3.7 version onwards.

Using the plugin is pretty simple as you need to add it like a regular Moodle activity from Add an Activity or resource button. Then format the text as per your wish.
