Moodle Teachers – Use Moodle Proctoring Plugin to secure your quiz

Moodle Teachers - Use Moodle Proctoring Plugin to secure your quiz
Moodle Teachers - Use Moodle Proctoring Plugin to secure your quiz

Moodle LMS has one of the most flexible and most powerful quiz engines. The Moodle Quiz can be customized to assess learners’ knowledge via a wide variety of question types. However, with the advancement of technology, learners might use unwanted means to get more marks in the quiz. In this post, we will see how you can use the Moodle proctoring plugin to create a more robust and safe quiz.

Since the learners can attempt the Moodle quiz from any location, at any time so there might be chances that they will use unwanted means to get more access. There may be cases that the actual student itself is not attempting the quiz which is highly unethical task.

To avoid such cheating tactics by your learners you can make use of Moodle proctoring plugin which captures images of the student via webcam. These images can be used to identify who is participating in the exam. The plugin will capture a picture after every 30 seconds and store in Moodle records as PNG format.

Moodle Admins can analyze the image of students after exams for verification using AWS Face Rekognition / BS Face Matching API. According to the plugin description, the top features are:

  • Capture user/student images via web camera
  • Can’t access quiz if the user does not allow the camera
  • Admin report and check any suspicious activity
  • Will work with existing Question Bank and Quiz
  • Images are stored in Moodledata as a small png image
  • Image can be deleted individually or in bulks
  • Proctoring log report with search facilities
  • Configurable image size and capture interval

The plugin works quite well for making your Moodle quiz more robust and safer to prevent the students from cheating. It can also be combined with Safe Exam Browser so that students can’t use any keyboard shortcuts also during the exam. You can download the latest version of the plugin from this link.

AXL EdTech Announces AI Copywriter and Supervisor Technology

AXL EdTech Announces AI Copywriter and Supervisor Technology

AXL EdTech, a global IT platform for online education used in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States in Eurasia, is developing two essential new products available for those creating e-learning courses.

First one is the company’s proprietary translation software, nicknamed “Merlin”, specifically designed to work with educational texts. The second is “Johnny The Market Guru”, an AI marketing protocol designed to help online educational businesses scale and grow, accessing new markets.

According to the company, its language software is an AI avatar that automatically translates videos with a unique voice simulator that replicates the original speaker’s timbre and lip movements, making it a hyper-realistic AI translator. Merlin can adapt to any language and translate it to the language selected by the user, and will soon be able to automatically translate all lessons uploaded to the AXL platform into 50 different languages.

Speaking about the newly launched initiative, Co-founders of AXL, Dmitry Yurchenko and Daniil Musatov, said:

Artificial intelligence is an industry capable of disrupting and improving the current educational technology space. We are already seeing the implementation of open AI sources like ChapGPT and others. In just a short time, these sources are making significant shifts in multiple areas related to education.

AXL developers mentioned that Merlin will have the capability to create a digital copy of any user and will be able to record lectures and lessons based on scripts by this year in June. Far more than a translator program, Merlin is designed to be the next generator of translation technology, creating a realistic avatar based on the appearance of the original speaker, complete with emotional responses and natural body language.

Johnny, the Market Guru, is an artificial marketer designed to analyze behavioural characteristics, identifying a targeted audience based on user input. It will be able to build predictive sales models, offer recommendations based on which lead it intends to generate, and identify successful advertising campaign strategies.

In addition, Johnny will provide a detailed analytics breakdown and be able to read and analyse the data to provide recommendations for changes based on audience response, sales and leads generated, and measurable revenue gain or loss.

Sharing about the company’s mission, Musatov said:

Education is universal, and in our business, we seek to be versatile. The software we develop today could change the educational practices of tomorrow. We aim to offer innovations that can streamline the educational process and help more students succeed.

Co-founded by Dmitry Yurchenko and Daniil Musatov, AXL creates dashboards to coordinate CRM tasks, kanban, sales and marketing analytics, chat/telegram channel access control, OP Manager Download Calendar, and more. The platform integrates with all the most popular payment systems, including Stripe and Paypal.

Edtech startup Upgrade Education completes EUR 200,000 investment in new educational platform ‘Agora’

Edtech startup Upgrade Education completes EUR 200,000 investment in new educational platform ‘Agora’
Edtech startup Upgrade Education completes EUR 200,000 investment in new educational platform ‘Agora’

Upgrade Education, a leading EdTech platform offering personalized mentoring for admission to the world’s top universities, has recently completed a €200,000 investment in the new online mentoring platform Agora. The company said that Agora allows students to access courses anytime, plan mentoring sessions, complete homework assignments, and assess their knowledge after completing a course through model surveys developed to boost students’ progress.

Upgrade builds long-term relationships with its students and, in the process, creates tight-knit communities of like-minded, passionate people who all help each other out. The platform takes students from high school to their university application to their first year of undergraduate studies. The startup claims to have been used by more than 500 students and over 150 mentors.

Speaking about the platform, Founder of Upgrade Education, Constantin Bosinceanu, said:

Upgrade is today at its highest performing point. The Agora platform is live and stable. In the next version, which will be ready by the end of the year, we are preparing to integrate a module based on Artificial Intelligence, open it up, and capitalize on resources through a subscription module.

He further added:

Since the beginning of this year, we have been working intensively on international expansion, and this quarter we managed to generate approximately 15% of revenue from students who are not from Romania. Our business model is based on mentors who have studied the same subject and at the same university to which the student wants to apply, therefore, by the end of the year, we aim for at least 30% of the revenue to come from the international area and also, in addition to Romania, the opening of a local office in another country in Europe.

According to internal statistics, more than 15,000 Romanian students travel annually to universities across the European Union, the UK, and the USA. The market is valued at over €5 million, but the EU is 100 times bigger – about €503 million. In 2022, most of the Romanian students who used Upgrade Education services were interested in Business & Management (30%), Computer Science (27%), and Law (11%).

Upgrade Education was launched in 2017. It offers personalized mentoring for admission, career counseling, SAT preparation, Creative Writing or any other specific exam practiced by the top 150 universities in the world, from Europe, the UK, and the US. It attracted a first round of investment at the end of 2021, worth around EUR 350,000, with the objective of digitizing personalized training through an online platform.

Hyperjob raises €435k to bring marketing tactics to the recruitment process

Hyperjob, a Latvia-based HRTech company, announced that it has raised €435,000 ($473,832) in a funding round led by venture capital fund SMOK.vc, with the participation of angel investors Davis Siksnans, Einar Roosileht, and other undisclosed parties, according to a report.

With the latest investment round, the startup plans to launch new product features and continue its expansion across European and US markets.

The firm has piloted its offering in the Baltics, DACH, CEE, the UK, and the US. Hyperjob said the results indicate a 300-600% increase in conversion rates, with 70% of candidates stating that they preferred its vacancy pages to regular job ads.

Sharing about the company, Co-founder & CEO of Hyperjob, Janis Kreilis, said:

Job pages look the same as they have for 100 years, but candidates’ demands have changed, and so have the technologies at our disposal. There’s a huge talent shortage, and we must rely on inbound applications. We have to change the way we think about recruitment, like marketing, rather than selection.

Co-founded by Janis Kreilis, Juris Sorokins, and Roberts Tomme in 2021, Hyperjob is a recruitment CRM that leverages marketing know-how to empower companies to secure top talent in a competitive market. The platform helps recruiters attract more candidates by creating interactive vacancy pages and modern, branded job ads. It also enables automated and personalized LinkedIn and email outreach and AI-driven candidate suggestions.

Commenting on the fundraising, Founding Partner of SMOK Ventures, Borys Musielak, added:

The team behind Hyperjob knows the ins and outs of recruiting as they had their agency and learned it first-hand, serving their customers. They can also build and test software quickly with minimal resources, a crucial feature of an early-stage startup. The scrappiness of the team, a great early product, and a huge market waiting for disruption made it a no-brainer to invest in Hyperjob.
