Amsterdam-Based Nxus Raises $162K to Eradicate Discrimination in Student Recruiting

Amsterdam-Based Nxus Raises $162K to Eradicate Discrimination in Student Recruiting

Nxus, an Amsterdam-based EdTech startup offering solutions for knowledge institutions in the field of (alumni) community and internship (job) matching, recently announced that it has raised $162,000 (€150,000) in a funding round led by Rabobank Innovation Loan (RIL).

Founded in 2018 by Niels Baay, an alumnus of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Nxus is a career and community platform that facilitates recruiting graduates and students from the talent pool of affiliated educational institutions. It enables students to create a skills portfolio containing a summary of the information and abilities they have acquired throughout their studies. This is done by converting the learning outcomes of study programmes into practical skills. The company matches students to internships and graduate positions based only on their talents.

By keeping the selection process anonymous until the student is asked for an interview by the company, the platform eliminates (unconscious) biases. Thus, Nxus offers all students an equal chance when entering the job market.

Speaking about the fundraising, the Founder of Nexus, Niels Baay, said:

We are very excited to have Rabobank invest in our mission to provide equal opportunities in the hiring of young professionals and to change the way we prepare today’s students for the skill-focused job market of tomorrow. This investment allows us to scale our solutions across the Dutch education sector, especially at MBO and HBO levels, where internship discrimination is a much-addressed issue demanding an explanation.

With its skills-based matching technique, Nxus removes all prejudices from the recruitment process and focuses on finding the best talent for the vacancy. Ruben van Brunschot, Rabobank Account Manager SME, added:

As Rabobank, we see Nxus as a perfect collaboration. Both commercially and in terms of social impact, Nxus builds a great bridge between education and the world of employment.

Add more security to your Moodle LMS with Multi Factor Authentication

Add more security to your Moodle LMS with Multi Factor Authentication
Add more security to your Moodle LMS with Multi Factor Authentication

Moodle LMS is a robust learning management system with more than 300 million users around the globe. In today’s digital landscape, ensuring the security of online platforms has become a paramount concern. Moodle, a widely-used learning management system (LMS), addresses this challenge by offering a robust multi-factor authentication (MFA) plugin.

By implementing MFA, Moodle significantly enhances the protection of user accounts, safeguarding valuable data and preventing unauthorized access. In this blog post, we will delve into the details of Moodle’s MFA plugin, exploring its features, installation process, and best practices for optimal security.

What is Moodle’s MFA Plugin?

Moodle’s MFA plugin is a powerful security feature that adds an additional layer of protection to user accounts within the Moodle LMS. Multi-factor authentication requires users to provide two or more pieces of evidence to verify their identity, such as something they know (password), something they have (mobile device), or something they are (biometric data). This plugin helps prevent unauthorized access even if a user’s password is compromised.

Key Features of Moodle’s MFA Plugin

  • Support for various authentication methods: Moodle’s MFA plugin offers flexibility by supporting multiple authentication methods, including SMS codes, email verification, time-based one-time passwords (TOTP), and more. This allows administrators to choose the most suitable method based on their security requirements and user preferences.
  • Customizable authentication workflows: The plugin allows administrators to define custom workflows, enabling them to configure the authentication process according to their specific needs. They can determine the sequence of authentication methods and adjust settings such as the number of authentication factors required.
  • Integration with popular MFA apps: Moodle’s MFA plugin seamlessly integrates with popular authentication apps like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy. Users can easily generate one-time passwords using these apps for enhanced security.
  • User-friendly interface: The plugin provides a user-friendly interface that guides users through the authentication process, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience. Users can conveniently set up and manage their MFA settings within their Moodle accounts.

You can get the Moodle’s MFA plugin from the official plugins repository here.

Generate Questions in Moodle Question bank easily using AI with this plugin

Generate Questions in Moodle Question bank easily using AI with this plugin

Moodle LMS is used by more than 365 million users around the world in 241 countries. With the rise of ChatGPT and AI based edtech tools, Moodle is also looking to improve the learning experience. Few weeks back Moodle HQ organized a survey about AI in Moodle. Now, a new plugin has been released in Moodle plugins directory which can create questions for you using AI.

The new plugin – AI Text to questions generator can do wonders for you as a Moodle teacher. You can just enter the text related to the course and it will generate the questions for you. Additionally it will add them right in your question bank so you can use them in the Moodle quiz.

You will need a Open AI API key to use this plugin. You can download AI Text to questions generator plugin from Moodle plugins directory here. After installation, just go to the course where you want to use this plugin.

On the top navigation bar, you will see a new link with name AI Questions. All you need to do is to paste your relevant course text and define the number of questions to be created.

By clicking “Generate  Questions” button – the system send the request to ChatGPT and create questions in course question bank with the results from ChatGPT.

I can see a lot of practical advantage of this plugin in Moodle courses. As a teacher you can create multiple questions for your students to let them practice. This will give them a better understanding about the topic and they can practice better for the final exam.
