Moodle Admins - How to Archive the courses at the end of the year easily using Course Archiver plugin
Moodle Admins - How to Archive the courses at the end of the year easily using Course Archiver plugin

Moodle Administrators need to setup the year-end procedures to keep the Moodle site updated for the next year. It includes resetting the courses for the new session and clearing all user data as well as archive the user data for compliance purpose. In this post we will discuss about the Course Archiver plugin and how you can use it.

The Course Archiver plugin is one of the most handy tools for the Moodle administrators which can help in archiving the courses. It can also be used to send notifications to course teachers, hide courses in bulk, and has the ability for course teachers to opt out of the archiving.

You can filter out the courses based on the Course start/end date, Course created start/end date, Course Accessed start/end date. The course zip files can be downloaded or the courses itself can be deleted completely. To avoid any deletion by mistake, there is also an option of archive deletion delayed by X days which can be configured in the plugin settings.

You can download the Course Archiver Moodle plugin from the official plugins repository here. The plugin can also send an email to the course teachers notifying them about their courses to be archived (hidden).  There is a setting to configure any specific course to be left out of the course archives.

What are the other ways you are using to setup your Moodle for the next year? What are the year-end procedures you are following on your Moodle? Please share with us in the comments section below.

AI-Powered Language Learning Platform Speak Raises $16M in Series B-2 Funding

Speak, an educational technology platform specializing in AI-powered language tutoring has announced that it has raised a $16 million Series B-2 funding round led by Lachy Groom, with participation from all existing major investors, including the OpenAI Startup Fund and new strategic investors such as the founders of Dropbox, Drew Houston, and Arash Ferdowsi. The new funding will accelerate the development of its AI Tutor, expand into international markets, and hire new personnel to support its availability in emerging markets.

Co-founded by Connor Zwick and Andrew Hsu in 2016, Speak allows users to practice conversing in English through interactive speaking experiences. The app features an “AI tutor” that guides open-ended conversations on various topics and provides feedback on pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. The company aims to fill a significant educational gap by creating a virtual, AI-driven tutor capable of mimicking the benefits of one-on-one human tutoring.

Excited about growing the company’s presence in major markets worldwide by the end of the year. Co-founder of Speak, Connor Zwick, stated that the learning experience developed by Speak has proven to resonate with minimal modifications needed in markets and cultures across the globe. Investor Lachy Groom added:

Education will continue to be a sector profoundly transformed by AI, as personalized one-on-one human tutoring is scarce and expensive. Speak’s mission to create a human-level AI tutor makes conversational practice accessible for all learners worldwide.

With the additional funding and support from OpenAI, Speak is poised for further growth and expansion. The platform’s innovative use of AI technology and commitment to affordable language education make it a standout in the competitive language learning market. As the company gears up to enter new markets, including the US, it’s clear that it has positioned itself as a significant player in the dynamic intersection of AI and education.

Enhance Moodle Groups by using the Grouptol Plugin

Moodle LMS is one of the most popular open source learning management system in the world with more than 370 million users around the world. Flexibility of customization and adaptation to all learning requirements are one of the main reason behind its popularity. In addition, the Grouptool plugin offers the following features:

  • automatic creation of groups with simultaneous enrolment of participants
  • simultaneous creation of groupings for each group created

MagicSchool.ai Raises $2.4M to Tackle Teacher Burnout With Artificial Intelligence

MagicSchool.ai Raises $2.4M to Tackle Teacher Burnout With Artificial Intelligence

MagicSchool.ai, a suite of AI-powered tools to boost learning design and delivery for educators, has recently announced that it has raised $2.4 million in a funding round led by Range Ventures, along with experts in education and machine learning, including GSV Ventures, Rethink Education, Charter School Growth Fund, Gary Community Investments, Transcend Fund, Ednovate Capital.

Founded by Adeel Khan, MagicSchool.ai gives educators powerful artificial intelligence tools to transform how they interact with students. It leverages AI to assist with lesson planning, differentiation, assessment writing, individual education program (IEP) creation, and more. The platform saves educators up to 10 hours per week, allowing them to focus more on the unique needs of their students.

Speaking about the company, Founder & CEO of MagicSchool.ai, Adeel Khan, said:

The speed of our growth is representative of the longstanding need to support overburdened educators. For decades, we’ve asked teachers to do more with less, and educators have made superhuman efforts to continue helping guide and teach the next generation. More than four in ten K-12 teachers in the US (44%) say they “always” or “very often” feel burnt out at work—outpacing all other industries nationally. (Gallup).

According to the company, over 100,000 teachers have started to utilize the platform to reclaim their time and better serve children. Over 10,000 instructors now use MagicSchool.ai in practically every school district in the country. Khan further stated:

Throughout my career, I’ve seen some of the best educators I know leave the profession because of burnout. These are the kinds of folks that we all want in front of students – irreplaceable teachers. Students will pay the price if we don’t address teacher burnout now.

Additionally, MagicSchool.ai envisions creating custom dashboards for school districts, providing valuable insights to higher-level decision-makers. With a focus on product-led growth and an ever-expanding user base, the firm is poised to revolutionize education by seamlessly integrating AI into teachers’ day-to-day workflow.
