Spanish Recruitment Startup Workfully Raises $1.27M in Seed Round

Spanish Recruitment Startup Workfully Raises $1.27M in Seed Round

Workfully, a recruitment startup based in Barcelona, Spain, that enables innovation-led companies to hire and upskill individuals worldwide has raised $1.27 million (€1.2 million) in a seed round. With this round of funding, the firm plans to continue product development and fuel its expansion goals, ultimately empowering more recruiters worldwide to work for themselves with true flexibility while better serving the job market.

Workfully was founded in 2021 with the aim of creating the most trusted recruitment experience in the world and becoming the creator platform for a new recruiting economy. The platform connects experienced talent partners from around the world. Users can hire more efficiently and transparently through shared data sets, market analysis and in-country expertise. The company has served companies in industries such as Biotech, Crypto, DeepTech, eCommerce, Fintech, MarketPlaces, SaaS, and TravelTech.

Speaking about the platform, Co-founder & CEO of Workfully, Valerio Rossi, said:

We believe that building a recruiting business in the future will look much more like being a content creator: starting on a platform like Workfully, building an audience and then monetizing that audience in-platform.

Stefano Tacconi, Co-founder & CCO of Workfully, added:

The company aims to not only empower recruiters to place senior candidates into enterprise companies but, in some cases, to give high potential candidates with no technical skills the training needed to access higher-paying positions.

Workfully grew organically during 2022, signing significant deals with enterprises and VC-backed unicorns such as FreeNow, TravelPerk, Blackberry, Lamborghini and Accenture, among others, allowing them to scale their recruitment operations globally. The organizations have used the platform to recruit hundreds of key senior positions, including about 100 candidates from underrepresented groups who were upskilled to join well-known tech institutions. With this investment, Workfully will also allow the startup to move even further, helping many more companies get the talent needed to thrive in their business.

Moodle Admins – Keep completion details of user account by merging two accounts

Moodle Admins - Keep completion details of user account by merging two accounts
Moodle Admins - Keep completion details of user account by merging two accounts

Moodle Admins often face a peculiar problem when they receive complaints from students that they completed some course activities with their other user account. This may lead to a problem that the completion details are available for two different user accounts. But the students expects that to show for only their main account. In this post we will see how you can merge two user accounts to keep completion details.

The Merge User Accounts plugin comes to the rescue of Moodle administrators in this specific problem. The Moodle plugin allows you to merge two Moodle user accounts into one account.

The intent of the plugin is to assign all activity & records from user A to user B. This will give the effect of user B seeming to have done everything both users have ever done in Moodle.

You can download the Merge User Accounts plugin from the official plugins repository here. Before installation, you are recommended to take a backup of your Moodle site. The basic function of the plugin is to loop through the tables and update the userid of every record from user A to user B. That will help you to restore the state before any merging action was done.

You need to go to Site Administration > Plugins > Admin Tools > Merge User Accounts. The plugin has the option to suspend old user, how to resolve quiz attempts etc. Once you are done, just click save changes to save plugin settings.

To merge the user accounts, go to Site Administration > user > merge user accounts. Just search for the user and select the criteria for search. Under show more, you can choose which user ID to be removed and which user ID to be kept.

What are the other useful tools which you are using to tackle such issues? Please share with us in the comments section below.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication in Moodle 4.3 - A detailed look

Moodle 4.3 – the new version of the Moodle LMS has been released recently which includes a lot of exciting new features. There are many new features like New Activity Cards redesign, default site & course based activity completion settings & multi-factor authentication. In this post we will discuss about the Multi factor authentication.

The Multi factor authentication is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to an online account. This type of authentication is used across online portals to increase security.

Earlier, Moodle has the option to add Multi factor authentication (MFA) by using the Moodle plugins. However, in Moodle 4.3 the authentication option is added in the core.

As a Moodle administrator, you can enable the Multi factor authentication on your Moodle site from Site administration > Plugins > Admin tools > Manage multi-factor authentication. You can also select the ‘factors’ which must satisfy in order to login.

You can also set the factors to include quite complex and flexible rules like cohorts, email, user capability etc. For more details, please refer to the official documentation here.

What are the other new features in Moodle 4.3 which makes you excited? Please share with us in the comments section below.

Career Acceleration Platform TAPCareers Raises $1M in Seed Funding

Career Acceleration Platform TAPCareers Raises $1M in Seed Funding

TAPCareers, a Dutch-Palestinian EdTech and career acceleration platform designed to unlock remote job opportunities for youth in MENA, has raised $1 million in a seed funding round led by Wamda Capital with participation from the World Bank, Loyal VC, and other angel investors.

Co-founded in 2018 by Jafar Shunnar and Christian Vezjak, TAPCareers bridges the gap between marginalized populations and the tech sector. The platform offers skills upgrading and development opportunities — 10 weeks of online education — to students and connects companies — mainly in Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain — to a pool of trained and vetted graduates. While being mentored by industry experts, TAP learners enhance and deepen market-relevant digital skills and improve their power skills before they are connected with international employers to work remotely.

Speaking about the company, Co-founder & CEO of TAPCareers, Christian Vezjak, said:

We plan to turn TAP into an ecosystem where thousands of jobs are created, enabling high-potential youth to access the opportunities they deserve.

The Startup has partnered with the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to create jobs. It has imparted training to more than 100 students in one year, intending to place more than 1,000 graduates on jobs yearly. The firm is currently operational in Palestine where 40% of graduates and 60% of women under 30 are unemployed.

In 2019, the founders launched Kiitos, a software house spotlighting underrepresented Palestinian software engineers in the global tech market. Over time, Kiitos transformed itself from a job provider to a platform for accelerating talent. In 2020, the Talent Acceleration Platform (TAP) emerged within Kiitos to fast-track trainees for roles at international companies. When they began requesting Kiitos-trained talent for other tech roles, TAP took off as its own firm.

Lost Admin rights on your Moodle Site – Assign admin role to other user

Lost Admin rights on your Moodle Site – Assign admin role to other user

While upgrading the Moodle LMS to a new version or testing a new plugin on your site, there  may be chances when you might have accidentally lost access to your admin account. And you couldn’t reset it without any means like the forget password option also not working. In this post we will see how you can assign admin role to any user in your Moodle.

While testing an authentication plugin on my development Moodle, I was also stuck up with no login for my admin account. Luckily, I have another test user with a student role, so by using the tip mentioned below, I was able to upgrade the student account as an admin and later recovered my main admin account.

However, in order to use this handy tip, you need to make sure that you know the ID of the new user whom you want to elevate as site admin. In case you don’t know the ID of the user, then you can find it out from the Moodle database in table mdl_user (where mdl is your database prefix).

Lost Admin rights on your Moodle Site – Assign admin role to other user
Add this line in config.php file

Once you are having the ID, then follow the steps below:

  • Navigate to Config.php file of your Moodle site (it is located in the root directory of your Moodle site)
  • Now, open the file in a text editor like Notepad etc.
  • Add the following line in your config.php file where 2 is the original admin user established when first installing, and [yourotheradminid] the ID number of the other user you setup as admin levels –
$CFG->siteadmins='2,[yourotheradminid]';
  • Save your config.php file and login with your student credentials. You will see the admin privileges.
