The Director, Learning & Development is responsible for designing and leading all aspects of learning, development and effectiveness across the organization. The Director ensures that learning initiatives are in alignment with business strategy and support management objectives by partnering closely with Martin Brower Leadership. The individual provides strategic direction for training and development across the network to ensure consistent training, coordination of efforts, sharing of best practice and tracking of key metrics to continuously evolve and improve. Serves as subject matter expert on adult learning principles, facilitation skills, and innovative learning technology to develop high impact learning solutions. The Director will manage/lead through the tracking of key metrics to ensure that training programs are valuable, that team members are improving in core skills/competencies and that the content is relevant, engaging, and effective.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
- Partner with senior business leaders to assess learning needs and develop business unit learning strategy using root-cause analysis to ensure the right solution is offered for sustained improvement.
- Apply expert adult learning principles and appropriate instructional design methods to design, develop, and/or select high-quality learning solutions.
- Ensure the right method of learning is used to meet the need such as Instructor-Led Training (ILT) and Virtual ILT assessments, programs, experiential learning, etc.
- Facilitate interactive, hands-on classes and programs using expert, engaging facilitation skills to create an enriching experience for the leaders.
- Evaluate and measure the effectiveness of learning solutions up to and including measurement of ROI when appropriate to ensure training is aligned to the needs of the business and is driving the desired business outcomes.
- Build and maintain effective business relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring buy-in and appropriate sponsorship for learning solutions.
- Manage vendors to ensure quality and cost-effective training solutions and facilitation.
- Monitor and evaluate team’s progress towards goals, while managing budget, compliance guidelines, resources, and workload to maximize outputs and effectively address training needs and opportunities.
- Manage field training professionals who have a dotted line reporting relationship to this position to maximize limited resources, minimize rework, and ensure quality.

Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of related experience or high school diploma with 13+ years of specific experience in organizational development, industrial psychology, or training/development roles
- Excellent communicator with expert presentation and facilitation skills; ability to adjust/adapt to a variety of audiences.
- Travel – 50 %. Ability to travel for meetings and training initiatives, including overnight.
- This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test.
- Significant experience in all steps of the ADDIE model, including design, development, and facilitation of content
- Proven project management skills and process excellence, with the ability to manage multiple projects, multi-task and prioritize effectively
- Prior experience creating learning and development strategic plans and translating them into operational objectives and programs.
- Experience in guiding leadership and project team members through a Change Management approach for implementation of new programs
- Ability to lead through influence in a matrixed environment and demonstrated ability to excel in a collaborative and team environment.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and eLearning development tools (e.g. Articulate, Captivate, Elucidat)
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- APTD/CPTD Certification
- Experience with Cornerstone Learning Management System
- Experience supporting Warehouse/Distribution/Supply Chain industries
