What You’ll Do
As an IT eLearning Instructional Designer on our Learning Design and Delivery (LDD) team within Health Information Technology and Services (HITS), you will partner with customers, technical team members, subject matter experts and learners across Michigan Medicine. You will leverage learner centered design practices to create learning experiences that enable users to effectively use IT applications and services in their daily work.
How you will make an impact
- Collaborate with team members, technical teams, subject matter experts and other partners to analyze training needs and design and develop dynamic and impactful learning primarily through online learning modes (eLearning, animation, video design) and related materials. This could also include curation of vendor content, design and development of technical training environments and technical scenarios.
- Lead small – medium training projects including creating curriculum plans, charters, project schedules and overseeing completion of work.
- Consult with IT partners on the creation and implementation of learning solutions for IT projects not directly owned within the Learning Design & Delivery team.
- Evaluate outcomes of training and improve/update content based on changing requirements, system updates, and employee feedback.
- Respond to customer service requests including technical troubleshooting of online learning and quality assurance.
- Have and maintain an advanced, working knowledge of assigned applications, services and technologies, and team-based productivity tools and obtain/maintain any required technical certifications. Examples of applications include Epic, Microsoft 365, and ServiceNow.
- Participate in implementation and transition to new applications, technologies, workflows, and upgrades including training and 1:1 or small group support.
- Develop online learning from scripts, subject matter expert provided content, curated content and existing content. This could also include recommending best practices for creating engaging online content.

Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a learning related role.
Desired Qualifications*
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Training, Information Technology or Clinical.
- Advanced degree in Instructional Design or Learning Design & Technology or related field.
- Solid understanding of instructional design theories, methodologies and best practices, including interactive online teaching methods
- Significant relevant experience in design and development of training (preferably adult learners focused on IT or software training).
- Significant Experience with eLearning development tools such as Captivate, Articulate, Camtasia or similar.
- A strong team player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
- Experience in leading training projects.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with delivering presentations and training.
- Enthusiasm for researching and experimenting with emerging learning technologies
- Experience in a healthcare related field.
- Prior experience with Epic.
Work Locations
This position is being made available with the ability for you to negotiate alternative work schedules and remote/on-site options to suit your work-life balance. This position does require some in person training which will require the ability to be on-site as needed for classroom sessions.
