As an Instructional Developer (Learning Specialist 2), you will work as a member of a team that develops complex multimedia training projects using established training analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation methods. These training projects are frequently driven both by customer’s needs and critical technical information that you will help synthesize into effective, visually compelling, and informative presentations.

Using your fundamental understanding of adult learning and training development practices and processes, you will work with under supervision to accomplish your designated tasks and work in collaboration with other training personnel to develop skill set. Using software applications such as Articulate StoryLine 3/360, relevant Adobe Creative Suite, and sometimes Microsoft PowerPoint, you will engage needed resources and drive innovative learning solutions that meet customer needs, regulatory drivers, and contractual requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and collaborative skills, a solid understanding of how people learn, the science of adult learning, a keen eye for design and aesthetics, and the creative and technical skill to produce engaging training products.

Organization and Planning Skills

Demonstrated excellence in organization and planning skills with close attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Proven ability to plan and execute work through strong program/project management experience, as it relates to training instructional design and development.

Communications/Relationship Management

Experience in professional communications and participation in meetings with all levels of personnel. Strong written and oral communication skills.

Instructional Design

Experience designing and developing online courses that are functional, informative, polished, and consistent with foundational instructional design principles, including the alignment of educational objectives with content, learning activities, and assessments.

eLearning Development

Experience designing media rich activities and knowledge assessments that may include video, audio, infographics, and other engaging elements for adult learning. Experience developing and implementing content user experience and beta testing processes. Proficiency with common business, instructional design, eLearning, and Learning Management System (LMS) (i.e. SAP, Articulate SL3/360 or equivalent, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite).

Education and Experience

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in video editing and production, graphic design, or motion graphics.
  • Basic knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) training, qualification, and readiness drivers and requirements as they pertain to nuclear facilities
  • LANL Training Staff Qualification Program qualified
  • DOE Clearance
  • Knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 508 compliance and how it pertains to accessibility of web content.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM with the potential for a hybrid work arrangement (partially onsite/partially offsite) from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Hybrid is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
