Day-to-day responsibilities are centered around supporting Wesleyan’s course lifecycle. The specialist ensures that the Wesleyan community has access to the tools, documentation, training, and support they need to manage their course sites in the learning management system (Moodle).
The specialist works with faculty to launch their course sites successfully at the start of each term and to then leverage the learning management system and its plugins and resources throughout the term.
The Academic Technologist LMS Specialist will develop and provide various training solutions to the Wesleyan community. These may be in-person or virtual in both asynchronous or synchronous formats.
Core responsibilities include
- Manage the course lifecycle in the LMS in order to meet program and pedagogical needs and assessment, which includes guiding faculty through the term preparation process for their courses each term and then providing support that spans the entire term. Responsibilities may include copying course content from a previous term, building LMS course sites, supporting using the LMS in complex ways, and integrating a new tool.
- Serve as an administrator and residential expert of Wesleyan’s LMS platform and its integrations, including evaluating and testing LMS upgrades. Support the research, evaluation, and deployment of a portfolio of third-party tools that use LTI and API frameworks. Currently, used products include Echo360, TurnItIn, GradeScope, Perusall
- Create, maintain, and manage support tickets in a timely and effective fashion.
- Promote awareness and utilization of our resources among the Wesleyan community via presentations, consultations, and training, and maintaining existing and creating new technical documentation.
- Serve on campus committees and consult on campus-wide initiatives that involve use of the learning management system.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of professional experience supporting and using learning management systems and LMS integrations or an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience.
- Detailed understanding of desktop operating systems (especially Macintosh), and fluency with Zoom, Office365, Google Apps, and Adobe applications.
- Excellent relationship management and customer service skills, with demonstrated client-facing technical communications skills.
- Knowledge of best practices in an educational context.
- Must have demonstrated track record of being accountable, reliable, responsive, and timely
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to maintain and increase applicable knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.
Wesleyan requires all employees to be vaccinated against Covid 19 unless they meet the criteria for a medical or religious exemption. New employees must be vaccinated prior to their start date.
