Worried about Accessibility in Moodle? Check out this plugin today!

Accessibility means the inclusive practice of ensuring there are no barriers that prevent interaction to online content by people with disabilities. Moodle LMS has been following the WCAG standard for making the system fully accessible. However, Moodle LMS includes a lot of user generated content which might not comply with the accessibility standard.

In this post we will discuss about one of the new plugins in Moodle plugins repository –  Accessibility. The Accessibility plugin for Moodle allows users to customize the visual appearance of a Moodle to suit individual preferences.

In recent years many Moodle themes included the option to switch between Dark mode or Light Mode (Day or Night mode). But this Accessibility plugin hands the control to the end user how he would like to got through the content.

The end user can choose his own page background color, font, font size and text color on all Moodle pages. There is an option to have more features added in future to allow granular control to end user.

You can download the Accessibility plugin from the official plugins repository here. Once installed, there will be an accessibility icon visible in the lower-right corner of the page. Clicking on the button produces a panel that contains the widgets that are available on the site. The base pack of widgets includes widgets for text colour, background colour, font face and font size. The colour widgets are designed to let the user choose their preferred colours without being restricted to a small selection of palettes.

Overall, I am very happy with the features of the plugin and the ease through which it can help people with disabilities to turn Moodle into a perfect learning platform without any barrier.
