Use Google Meet in Moodle for web conferencing & learning

-

World’s most popular open source Learning management System – Moodle LMS allows integration of different tools to enhance learning. There are multiple tools available which are having seamless integrations through Moodle plugins. In this post, we will see how you can integrate Google Meet with Moodle to host meetings.

Google Meet is one of the most popular and stable web-conferencing tool released by Google. It has been used across various industries to allow users to host their own video conferences. It allows more relaxing features than Zoom.

While Google Meet is one of the best ways to use the web conferencing in Moodle, there are other open source tools which can also be integrated in your Moodle. There are BigBlueButton & Jitsi and various others which can be used with Moodle.

With Google meet for Moodle plugin, You can allow the teachers to create a room and make available to the students the recordings of the room saved in Google Drive, without having to leave Moodle.

You can download the Google Meet for Moodle plugin from the official plugins repository here. After installing this plugin, you need to setup an OAuth service in Moodle to connect Google from Moodle. Once you have completed the setup as defined in the plugin documentation, you can use it from your Moodle course.

To setup a Google Meet session, you need to add the Google Meet activity in your course. You can setup the recurring event also as you can configure the recurring dates/duration.

You can also record your meetings and then save them to the Google Drive repository. The recordings can be lates shared to students to let them go through at a later date.

There are many advantages of using Google Meet in Moodle, such as:

  • Easy access – Since most of users are having Google account, so it is easier for them to get started with Google meet.
  • Relaxed Limitations – You can host 60 minutes meeting for 100 participants.
  • Easy recordings – All the meetings are recorded as well as can be accessed at a later date without any problem.
