Moodle Teachers – Use Moodle Proctoring Plugin to secure your quiz

-

Moodle LMS has one of the most flexible and most powerful quiz engines. The Moodle Quiz can be customized to assess learners’ knowledge via a wide variety of question types. However, with the advancement of technology, learners might use unwanted means to get more marks in the quiz. In this post, we will see how you can use the Moodle proctoring plugin to create a more robust and safe quiz.

Since the learners can attempt the Moodle quiz from any location, at any time so there might be chances that they will use unwanted means to get more access. There may be cases that the actual student itself is not attempting the quiz which is highly unethical task.

To avoid such cheating tactics by your learners you can make use of Moodle proctoring plugin which captures images of the student via webcam. These images can be used to identify who is participating in the exam. The plugin will capture a picture after every 30 seconds and store in Moodle records as PNG format.

Moodle Admins can analyze the image of students after exams for verification using AWS Face Rekognition / BS Face Matching API. According to the plugin description, the top features are:

  • Capture user/student images via web camera
  • Can’t access quiz if the user does not allow the camera
  • Admin report and check any suspicious activity
  • Will work with existing Question Bank and Quiz
  • Images are stored in Moodledata as a small png image
  • Image can be deleted individually or in bulks
  • Proctoring log report with search facilities
  • Configurable image size and capture interval

The plugin works quite well for making your Moodle quiz more robust and safer to prevent the students from cheating. It can also be combined with Safe Exam Browser so that students can’t use any keyboard shortcuts also during the exam. You can download the latest version of the plugin from this link.
