Moodle HQ appoints Scott Anderberg as CEO after Martin Dougiamas stepped down

Moodle HQ has appointed Scott Anderberg as the next CEO of Moodle Project after the CEO & Founder – Martin Dougiamas decided to step down from the role. Martin will be moving to a new role of Head of Research to focus on the use of new technologies (especially AI) in education and learning.

In a recent announcement, Moodle Founder – Martin Dougiamas posted about the appointed of his successor – Scott Anderberg as CEO. Martin will remain CEO until the end of January 2024 and also continue as a shareholder and Chairman of Moodle’s board of directors. In September 2023, Martin expressed his wish to move away from the role.

Scott is a highly accomplished global education leader with over 20 years of experience in the eLearning industry.  He began his career at eCollege, an eLearning software and services provider. His expertise is best defined by his 15 years of experience with Pearson, the world-leading learning company with 20,000 employees globally.

In his announcement Martin mentioned:

I am very happy we found Scott Anderberg in our search for a new CEO.  Scott has shown he understands and respects the values-driven mission that defines Moodle while bringing the seasoned commercial leadership that Moodle needs for its sustainability.  I’m confident he’s a great fit for the team, and I’m looking forward to him driving positive improvements in our strategy and team culture.

While the new appointed CEO – Scott said:

I couldn’t be more excited to join the team at Moodle and guide them through this next chapter of development and growth.  My career has been motivated by a keen interest in increasing access to educational opportunities in markets where affordability and personal obligations make that challenging.  No education company has done more to overcome these barriers globally than Moodle. Moodle has an incredible global footprint, and I’m excited by the opportunities to develop its impact in supporting people across their lifelong learning journey, whether in formal education settings like schools and universities or throughout their career.
