Moodle is world’s most popular open source learning management system (LMS) in the world with more than 400 million users around the world. It has been used by many big universities around the world such as Open University. In this post we will discuss how you can stop students from cheating during a Moodle Quiz.
While Moodle LMS offers a pretty robust & powerful quiz which allows you to customize according to your requirements. By using Safe Exam browser with Moodle Quiz, you can limit students capabilities to cheat while attempting the quiz. However, there may be cases when you can’t have Safe Exam Browser on students device to prevent them from cheating.
The quiz access rule plugin – Block Concurrent Sessions Moodle plugin comes in handy. It allows the students to continue quiz attempt only in the same browser session. Any attempts to open same quiz attempt using another computer, device or browser will be blocked.
This is useful to prevent a situation in which someone helps a student to solve a quiz by accessing the quiz with the student’s username/password from another computer. In case that a student accidentally closes the browser or the computer breaks during a quiz, teacher can use the attempt review page to unlock this attempt and allow the student to continue the quiz attempt on another device.
Any attempts to continue a quiz from another device are logged, so teacher can see the log to determine if someone tried to cheat.
You can download the Block concurrent connections quiz access rule Moodle plugin from the official Plugins repository here.
