Moodle Admins - Prevent students from logging in multiple devices simultaneously

Moodle LMS is the world’s most popular open source learning management system (LMS) with around 400 million users across the globe. But with the benefits of online learning offered by Moodle LMS comes the challenge of securing the learning.

Without the presence of physical instructor in online learning students are often inclined to look for shortcuts. In this post we will see how you can set Moodle users to log in at only one device at a time and how it can help you.

The Unique Login Moodle plugin is an authentication plugin which allows the users only one active session at a time. The previous session will be terminated as soon as they start a new session.

The Unique Login Moodle plugin can be used for online courses which are mainly used for taking online exams. This will help the teachers secure the exams by preventing students from using multiple devices simultaneously. Or in other case you dont want that the credentials of one Moodle user are used simultaneously in more than one system.

However to work properly, the plugin need to be on top of the authentication plugins list and Database-stored sessions are enabled by the administrator. You can also configure whether the teachers or even admins are affected by this plugin or not.

You can download the Unique Login Moodle plugin from the official plugins repository here.
