Moodle Administrators – Limit active sessions of users with Unique Login plugin

-

Moodle LMS is modular in nature with capability to extend the functionality by using Moodle plugins. Many times the Moodle educators suffers when the students share their login credentials with others and access the training courses. In this post, we will see the Unique Login Moodle plugin which allows you to limit the active sessions for each user.

Unique Login Moodle plugin is one of the most popular and actively maintained plugin. It is existing since Moodle 1.9 era so you can trust about the active development in future also. The goal of this authentication plug-in is to make sure that each user in Moodle only has one active session simultaneously.

You can download the latest version from the Moodle plugins directory. You can follow this guide to install the plugin on your Moodle environment. The plugin uses the session information from database to determine if any user is having multiple active sessions simultaneously.

Once installed make sure to enable it and move to top of the authentication methods to let it work correctly. You also need to enable the Use database for session information under Site administration » Server » Session Handling.

In my opinion, this plugins offers a handy and nifty functionality to avoid multiple sessions from any user. You should definitely use this plugin on your Moodle site if you are facing any problems with user account sessions.

What are the other handy Moodle plugins which shall be used on any Moodle learning environment? Please share with us in the comments section below.
