-

Moodle 4.2 – the next major version of Moodle learning management system will be released in April 2023. The latest version is expected to bring in a lot of performance improvements as well as a lot of new features. In this post, we will see a brief list of exciting new features coming in Moodle 4.2 version.

The Moodle 4.2 version is currently under the Quality Assurance testing process. As on date, there are around 69% tests which are marked as passed by the Community members. It is expected to have a 100% pass percentage before the release of new version.

Moodle 4.2 Top new Features

  • External Messaging Options like Matrix – While Moodle’s internal Messaging system is slightly outdated, but it is still helpful to communicate one to one with your students. In Moodle 4.2, the Moodle Administrators will have the ability to integrate other messaging systems into Moodle like Matrix, Slack, Teams etc.
  • TinyMCE will be the default editor – As we have reported earlier, Moodle is deprecating inbuilt Atto text editor and phasing it out with the more popular standard TinyMCE editor. In Moodle 4.2 version, the TinyMCE editor will be set as the default text editor.
  • Gradebook UX improvements – The new Gradebook UX improvements will modernize Moodle’s gradebook interface and make its usage more intuitive. The new improvements will make it easier and more intuitive for teachers to view and manage the existing course grades. On the other hand, it will make it easier for students to view their grades.
  • Bulk Editing on Course Page – This project is contributed by Moodle users Association, and it introduce the possibility for a multiple selection of course activities at the course view page for teachers to Hide/Show, Duplicate, Delete and move at once.
  • Remove the Activity Name from the Course page – In Moodle 4.1 the Activity Name e.g. Assignment, Forum is visible on top of the Actual activity name which is resulting in confusion among learners. In Moodle 4.2, the Activity type name will be removed from the course page making it more clear for students.
  • Question Bank Improvements – Continuing the work from Moodle 4.1, the Question Bank will be improvised further in Moodle 4.2. It is further anticipated that it will continue with further improvements with Moodle 4.3 and Moodle 4.4 version also.

There will be more features as well as improvements in Moodle 4.2. What are the new features you are excited to see in Moodle 4.2 version? Please share with us in the comments section below.
