Moodle 4.1 - TinyMCE Editor is available in Moodle

Moodle 4.1 is the latest released version of Moodle LMS. The new version is packed with new exciting features which will make your online learning experience much better and engaging. With a focus on improving the User Experience, Moodle 4.1 comes with a lot of improvements focused on Database, Gradebook and other areas. In addition there is another change which allows Moodle Admins to use the TinyMCE Editor on Moodle site.

TinyMCE is a rich text editor which gives you total control over your rich text editing. It is one of the most popular text editors in the world. It allows users to create formatted content within a user-friendly interface. With this new addition, Moodle users will be able to use the latest version of the TinyMCE Editor.

Atto text editor which was designed as a lightweight, accessible, in-house editor for Moodle, will be deprecated in the upcoming version of Moodle LMS. It is getting difficult to maintain for Moodle HQ team since it was using deprecated technologies. So, a decision was taken to use the TinyMCE as the default text editor in upcoming Moodle versions. (check out this forum thread). The default text editor for Moodle 4.1 is still Atto which will be replaced by TinyMCE in Moodle 4.2 version.

TinyMCE is enabled by default in Moodle 4.1 version otherwise the admin can enable it from Administration > Site administration > Plugins > Text editors > Manage editors. Once it is enabled, the users can select the TinyMCE from the User menu > Preferences > Editor preferences.

TinyMCE also supports equation editor, media recording as well as other modern rich text editing like color, table keyboard shortcuts etc.

What is your reaction with Atto making way for the TinyMCE editor in Moodle? Are you happy with this decision from Moodle HQ? Please share with us in the comments section below.
