The University of Maryland School of Medicine UMSOM) – Department of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Science (PTRS) has an exciting opportunity for a Specialist, Instructional Technology.
The Instructional Technology Specialist will report to the Administrator and will perform a variety of tasks to promote and aid faculty and staff in delivery of instruction by creating technical based learning experiences. This position will facilitate technology-rich teaching and learning by providing technical support to the Department’s learning management system for in-person, online and hybrid modules. This includes support for self-paced asynchronous modules, audio/video components and other training resources for faculty, staff and students.
PTRS currently offers degrees in Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Rehabilitation Science (PhD), Dual DPT-PhD, Dual DPT-Master of Public Health (DPT-MPH). PTRS is dedicated to advancing the profession of rehabilitation through high-quality teaching, research, and excellence in clinical practice. Our faculty are nationally recognized for their extensive experience. Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Works collaboratively and effectively with faculty to support instructional initiatives both in-person and online to improve learning outcomes, facilitate technology-rich teaching and advance curricular innovation.
- Provides daily support and advice in the use of technology in learning applications and equipment using a wide variety of available technologies, such as: digital images/audio, PowerPoint and other PC presentation software, enterprise learning applications, and distance learning (DL) technologies.
- In collaboration with faculty, develops multi-media materials and eLearning applications for use in a blended learning environment.
- Provides consultation on course media use and conducts formal training and presentations on new and innovative technology solutions.
- Evaluates relevant emerging technologies that have potential value for teaching and learning in a blended environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional or Educational Technology, or Graphic or Instructional Design or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of related experience which includes proficiency with audio/visual, multimedia, video production, or IT resources.
Supervisory Experience: N/A.
Certification/Licensure: N/A.
Other: Related experience may be substituted for education. Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events.
Preferred Experience: Proven experience designing storyboards, audio and video scripts, job aids, scenarios, case studies, learning activities, hybrid course content, web applications, infographics, learning assessments and user guides using sound instructional design theory preferred. Experience in reviewing online and hybrid courses by applying the Quality Matters Rubric to ensure the highest level of course quality, student experience and engagement preferred. Experience with post-production tasks including video and audio editing, effects, branding and file compression preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- High level of Proficiency in learning management systems, distance learning applications, multi-media and hybrid solutions. Related experience may be substituted for education. Candidates must be able to provide examples of multi-media or elearning creations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must possess strong organizational skills, time management and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and problem-solve with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in a professional manner, both orally and in writing with a variety of people internal and external to the organization.
