    Responsibilities

    The Manager, Learning & Development, is responsible for partnering with business leaders and internal/external SMEs to develop training programs to aid in the achievement of business goals and strategic mandates as identified by the Sr. Leadership team. This position is also responsible for prioritizing Training and Development strategies to ensure alignment with short- and long-term business objectives.

     

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Consult with business leaders and internal/external SMEs regarding training needs of the organization.
    • Build and maintain effective business relationships with outside vendors to ensure availability of all training materials to develop and ensure cost-effective training solutions.
    • Expert application of adult learning principles and appropriate instructional design methods for development of learning solutions/content including Learning Technologies such as eLearning or instructor-led trainings.
    • Design and develop instructional materials, programs, and processes for all training solutions and ensuring team members are aware of training requirements.
    • Develop a process for measuring and reporting on the effectiveness of training programs through various assessment methods i.e., testing, evaluations, etc.
    • Manage multiple, complex training projects, assign responsibilities, create timelines and milestones, prioritize goals, and coordinate/direct the work of internal staff and subcontractors to meet tight timelines.
    • Leverage instructional design techniques to create best-in-class training programs.
    • Create workshops for national sales meetings and/or sales training meetings.
    • Create eLearning storyboards for electronic modules.
    • Script scenarios for different training materials.
    • Conduct periodic needs assessments to identify learning objectives and needs.
    • Consult with clients to determine effective instructional methods.
    • Monitor and implement learning and development industry trends and best practices.
    • Oversee the process of Training relating to TSA, Dangerous Goods, Hazardous Materials, and specialized services (Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico).
    • Maintain files and records of training attendance, completion, certification, and evaluation.
    • Update the Estes Forwarding Right Way Routing Guide and all other operational procedure reference material.
    • Comply with company C-TPAT and TSA security procedures.
    • Regular attendance required.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and 6-8 years of experience in training, teaching and the transportation industry.  However, a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration.

     

    Position functions semi-autonomously and directly supervises 1-10 direct reports. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

     

    Periodic travel up to 10% required.

     

    Typically sitting at a desk or table.  Intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee may periodically drive their personal or company car when travelling.

     

    • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications.
    • Exemplary skills in presenting/facilitating a wide variety of training to diverse audiences and the ability to motivate, communicate, and instruct/train others, using both technical and non-technical language to explain complex subjects and processes.
    • Ability to read and interpret comprehensive and intricate research documents.
    • Ability to write scientific reports and technical correspondence.
    • Ability to work with executives and communicate abstract concepts.
    • Ability to present to a high level of the organization and groups outside of the organization.
    • Ability to solve problems with complex variables through non-standardized solutions that require independent judgment and analysis.
    • Ability to draw inferences and use deductive reasoning with no prescribed procedures to solve complex problems.
    • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
