    As a Learning Specialist 2 (Instructional Content Developer), you will develop engaging, complex, and compliant training and synthesize training requirements into effective, visually compelling, and informative presentations. Developers collaborate with stakeholders across the Laboratory to assure projects meet customer needs, regulatory drivers, and contractual requirements. This level of Developer may provide guidance in interpreting regulations and policies to ensure training compliance and will work within the LANL Learning Management System (LMS) to setup, prepare troubleshoot, and manage LANL Learning projects. Viewed as a professional in the training field. Provide resolutions to a diverse range of moderately complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of multiple factors. You will work as part of the training delivery team as a course manager dedicated to the Lockout/Tagout for Hazardous Energy Control program. You will work closely with and team and subject matter experts to develop, revise and deliver training on Environmental, Safety, Health, and Quality Assurance (ESHQ) disciplines. Expectations to achieve compliance with regulations: LANL internal, ESHQ standards, as well as federal and state regulatory requirements.

    Job duties include one or more of the following:

    • Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. Assures safety and security compliance, maintains required safety and security training, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
    • Work with customers, stakeholders and regulators to assure training programs meet customer needs, regulatory drivers and contractual requirements. Provides expert guidance in interpreting regulations and policies to ensure compliance.
    • Develops, implements, and maintains documents such as procedures, forms, templates, and/or plans.
    • Research complex training and education issues and recommends sound, practical solutions. Additionally, develops, implements, and maintains compliant and high-quality course materials which includes the delivery of as live classroom, on-the-job and/or web-based training for diverse audiences.
    • Maintains an understanding and adheres to Laboratory and industry guidance and governance specific to ESHQ.
    • Instructional and eLearning design work to include the minimum job requirements below.

    What You Need

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    Instructional and eLearning Design

    • Experience in the design and development of courses that are consistent with foundational instructional design.
    • Demonstrated experience in designing media rich activities and knowledge assessments that may include video, audio, infographics, or other engaging elements.
    • Proficiency with common business, instructional design for eLearning training and Learning Management System Software.
    • Proficiency with Articulate SL3/360 or equivalent, Microsoft Office, and/or Adobe Creative Suite

    Communication and Customer Service

    • Demonstrated effective skills with interpersonal, written, and verbal communications within a diverse audience.
    • Demonstrated ability to track and measure program progression
    • Ability to prioritize competing project deadlines
    • An ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently.
    • Ability to transfer knowledge effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel.

    Organization and Research

    • Experience in managing projects expectations, and timelines.
    • Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate and resolve technical issues pertaining to training content.

    Education: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

    Desired Job Requirements:

    • Experience working with or instructing Lockout/Tagout for Hazardous Energy Controls.
    • Electrical safety experience.
    • Experience with production of videos and photography.
    • Basic knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) training, qualification, and readiness drivers and requirements as they pertain to nuclear facilities.
    • Knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 508 compliance and how it pertains to accessibility of web content.
    • Experience with the ADDIE model as well as the Systematic Approach to Training.
    • Master’s degree preferred.
    • Knowledge of DOE training, qualification, and readiness drivers and requirements as they pertain to nuclear facilities.
    • Instructional experience with adult learners and adult learning principles.

    Work Environment:
    Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

    Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
