    Experience Learning Designer II

    What You’ll Do:
    The Learning Experience Designer II will apply relevant teaching experiences and understanding of learning sciences, pedagogy, and instructional design to develop clearly written, pedagogically-appropriate, digital-first solutions that solve specific market problems shared by teachers and students. The person will work as part of a collaborative agile scrum team and should be comfortable offering opinions and willing to think innovatively about potential solutions. This person may be tasked with leading parts of the solution, with guidance from more senior members of the scrum and leadership teams.

    Working in Learning Experience Design (LXD) for literature and language arts, the Learning Experience Designer II will be responsible for the following primary duties:

    User Experience and Instructional Design:
    Helps define the end-to-end user journey for all digital experiences on HMH’s teaching and learning platform.
    Demonstrates an ability to leverage and apply expertise in two or more areas: discipline-specific knowledge, assessment, social-emotional learning, hands-on learning, differentiation, standards analysis, data analytics, multilingual learner support, accessibility, culturally responsive education, metadata, etc.
    May work flexibly across grade levels: elementary, middle school, and/or high school.
    With minimal supervision, creates and adapts content and metadata for a research-based, digital-first experience that serves the needs of all learners.

    Agile Development:
    Serves as a developer on a scrum team responsible for solving teaching and learning problems, relying on discovery and data analysis to test, develop, deliver, and iteratively optimize solutions in a variety of media formats.
    Develops instructionally-sound content that delivers value to customers in keeping with capacity constraints and market expectations, often contributing fresh, innovative solutions that surprise and delight users.
    Applies an agile approach to ensure work is completed on time and is of high quality. Actively participates in retrospectives to identify and offer improvements to internal processes.

    Research:
    Advocates for user research in order to inform decisions as teams address problems and develop solutions. Uses existing research and collaborates with the Research team to identify goals for further testing. Participates in research such as Teacher Panels and surveys. Summarizes findings and uses the findings to help drive solutions.

    Data Analysis:
    Applies insights from data from a variety of sources, including HMH’s teaching and learning platform, to propose solutions to market problems.
    Understands usage and efficacy data (e.g., task difficulty, time on task, growth data) to help iterate/improve upon user experience and instructional content.
    Uses data to effectively communicate reasoning behind development decisions.

    Definition of Success:
    Delivers iterative solutions on time and within budget that meet market needs as measured by product sales, customer testimonials, and platform usage data.
    Clearly communicates with core and extended team members to promote an effective work environment.
    Meets educators’ and students’ needs with some active support/guidance from more senior members of the scrum team.

    What You’ll Need:
    3-4 years’ experience in instructional design for K-12 students or a combination of K-12 instructional design and teaching.
    Bachelor’s degree in education, Instructional Design, or related field.
    Expertise in language arts and literature (preferably secondary language arts and literature ).
    Strong understanding of Common Core and state standards.

    Technical Skills:
    Experience creating and using metadata.
    Digital instructional material development and delivery (strongly preferred).
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
    Experience using data analysis/interpretation to inform solutions to market problems.

    Nice to Have:
    Experience with assessment development.
    K-12 teaching experience.
    Bilingual
    Experience in teaching bilingual students and/or developing bilingual instructional materials.
    Experience working on agile scrum teams, JIRA.
    Comfort with using AI tools.

    Physical Requirements:
    Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
    Constantly operate a computer
    Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
    Must be capable of sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
    Must be able to lift/push/carry up to 50 lbs. frequently.
    Must be willing to occasionally travel to support meetings, including weekends.

    Salary: $65K-$70K
