    Our Learning Experience Designer (LXD) will innovate, expand, revitalize, and scale AORN’s education portfolio, shaping digital learning solutions that inspire the next generation of perioperative nursing professionals. Reporting to the Sr. Team Lead of Digital Learning Strategy and Design, this role is responsible for bringing clinically complex content to life. As part of the Digital Learning Design (DLD) team, the LXD will design and develop learner-centric, actionable, and inclusive experiences for the Nursing Education department. Extra emphasis will be placed on the inclusion of diverse, equitable, and accessible learner perspectives and experiences.

     

    AORN is based in Denver, CO. Our Learning Experience Designer will work remotely.

     


    More about what you’ll get to do as our Learning Experience Designer:

    • Work collaboratively with subject matter experts (SMEs), nurse educators, and the DLD team.
    • Produce digital learning experiences rooted in relevant, emergent, and innovative technologies.
      • Recommend and apply appropriate instructional design approaches to develop learning across different authoring tools.
      • Interpret and translate overview, outcomes, and objectives into learning content.
      • Analyze content for areas where learning can be visualized.
      • Effectively and strategically utilize adult learning and UX/UI principles.
      • Share in the development of design systems, style guides, templates, and standardization.
      • Ensure instructional integrity of course development through systematic design.
      • Iteratively execute QC processes to elevate product quality.
      • Identify learner needs via surveys, assessments, and research.
      • Contribute to evaluating learning success and satisfaction metrics.
      • Swiftly prototype, iterate, and optimize content to support ongoing revitalization efforts.
    • Instrumental in the advancement of the digital learning design team’s mission.
      • Provide thought leadership and actively contributes to ideation sessions.
      • Acts as a change agent to drive continuous improvement across AORN’s portfolio.
      • Empower others to creatively problem solve, and goal set to achieve organizational needs.
      • Continually expand skillset in new learning approaches, trends, and emerging technologies through ongoing research and experimentation.
      • Explore and test new methodologies, break away from the status quo, and be an early adopter and advocate of technology.
    • Share in the management of project production lifecycles.
      • Identify resources, assignments, and opportunities to meet requirements.
      • Ensure documentation of processes, best practices, and workflows is current and properly catalogued.
    • Additional duties as assigned.

    Must Have’s to be our Learning Experience Designer:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design or relevant field. Equivalent combination of education and work experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree.
    • 3+ years of experience in Instructional Design or eLearning content development using various modalities and deliverables (e.g., microlearning, instructional videos, social learning, gamification, immersive scenario-based simulations, personalized/adaptive learning).
    • Experience working within a design team.

     


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Agile, design sprints, and design thinking experience and execution.
    • Experience with video development (e.g., Vyond, Adobe, Synthesia).

     


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Demonstrated skill in learning applications and authoring tools including: Articulate360, Vyond, Camtasia.
    • Familiar with WCAG2.0, UX Principles, design systems, templates, CARP standards, and QA/QC best practices.
    • Knowledge of Digital Learning technical standards (SCORM, AICC, xAPI).
    • Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion when accessing sensitive information.
    • Beta testing processes and iterative feedback integration.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (e.g., Teams, Planner, OneDrive, SharePoint, Flow, Lists).
    • Excellent time management skills with the ability to set priorities, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to adapt quickly to change with enthusiasm.
    • Resourceful when tackling unfamiliar tasks.
    • Initiative-taking and action-oriented when facing project ambiguity and working independently.
    • Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Thrives in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
    • Comfortable with receiving, providing, and incorporating feedback.
