The Virginia Retirement System is seeking an experienced training professional to collaborate with management, VRS staff and other subject matter experts to conduct needs analysis and topic research in order to write, edit, revise and format curriculums according to instructional design best practices while considering ways to address training needs for deliveries that are in-person or online.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

• Support key team deliverables and serve as team lead on defined project plan timelines.
• Coach trainers in change management projects.
• Provide suggestions for process improvement, resource optimization and process simplification across teams.
• Contribute to system improvement efforts through process analysis and workflow redesign.
• Work with the Training Design Supervisor and Training Manager to identify solutions to meet the needs of all levels of personnel.
• Assist with overall management and development of Educational Training implementation program for all user groups.
• Support training curriculum design, programs, materials, and facilitation as directed.
• Create training products, including student guides, PowerPoint presentations, and facilitator guides.
• Compose eLearning, webinar, and video scripts.
• Design effective learning activities and authentic assessments that encourage critical thinking skills and self-directed learning.
• Liaise as necessary with training staff and business units to ensure that training materials meet individual departments’ needs and determine the appropriate media for content distribution.
• Provide feedback on, update, and modify curriculum materials used to deliver informational content on VRS benefits and services in the instructional setting.
• Plan and deliver training sessions and workshops to employers and VRS employees, enabling them to support VRS members and retirees.
• Determine the effectiveness of training, and make improvements as needed.
• Collaborate with curriculum developers in recommending training material enhancements and modifications to training programs.
• Develop and administer needs analyses, surveys and evaluations for classroom and distance training products to monitor and evaluate training products.
• Track and analyze quantitative and qualitative data on training programs and make data driven recommendations for improvements to management.
• Coordinate with IT staff to schedule and administer regular training environment refreshes, login/password resets.
• Run queries in the agency’s training environment to provide use cases applicable to training deliverables.
• Monitor the functionality of cases located on the virtual training platform.
• Oversee webinar and classroom session planning, registration, and course delivery logistics for internal and external participants.
• Coordinate with Public Relations and other organizational communication pathways to promote upcoming course offerings.
• Effectively works with all levels of management and staff to improve processes and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Adult Learning, Instructional Design, English, Communications, or a closely related field.

Five (5) years of experience exhibiting an applied knowledge of instructional design methods including adult learning techniques, best practices for group facilitation and using instructional aids for adult learners and evidence-informed learning design. Prior contact center training experience preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the hiring manager) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification or completion of coursework in eLearning software products such as Storyline, and training/webinar delivery software such as GoToWebinar.

Experience with graphics and instructional design tools and with versioning software and applications for document storage and review such as SharePoint and LMS.

Hybrid Work Environment = Employees work 2 days onsite at VRS and 3 days remote. The selected candidate must be able to work in the office as required by the supervisor.
